Hello everyone. I'm quite sure that none of you know who I am (this being my first post), but I've been reading these boards for quite some time.
I was initially drawn to this site through some random searching of transformations. I ran across John's name somewhere and was simply amazed. The problem is, that's really about as far as I got. I worked out pretty steadily for about three months, messed up my elbow, and have been making excuses ever since. Well, I'm done making excuses.
My name's Ron and I live in Oshkosh, WI. I could give you all a really long, drawn out bio here...but I'm sure you've got more important things to do with your time. If you're interested, I hope you'll check out the following website:
www.uwosh.edu/commencement
You see, I was one of the worst students in the history of academics. I literally threw away so many opportunities in my life that I hate looking back on it. Then I met my wife. Everything in my life changed. Every dream I had as a kid is now not only possible, but fastly becoming reality. I've made my own "transformation" of sorts already. I went from a horrible student to an honors student destined for law school. (If you check out that link, you can view the speech I gave at my college commencement this past May. I also had a feature article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal that you can read if you want.)
(I hope I'm not coming across as an egomaniac or anything...I'm really just trying to keep this as brief as I can.)
Anyway, I've achieved something in my life that had plagued me since childhood. That picture that John posted (the face shot) said something to the effect of, "this was the lowest point in my life...more than you realize." Well, I know that feeling all too well. It wasn't long ago that I'd given up on ever truly enjoying my life or feeling good about who I was.
Well, I've turned a few things around: gotten into law school, married the coolest person I've ever met in my life, had a beautiful daughter (3 1/2 months ago), purchased our first house (less than a week ago), and basically just rebuilt a life that I once thought worthless.
Now I want to turn this body of mine around as well. I used to be a pretty good athlete, but 15 years of drinking beer and eating junk food have taken their toll. If I wasn't blessed with a pretty good metabolism, I shudder to think what I'd look like. As it is, it's bad enough!
Well, that's pretty much it. I tried to keep it somewhat brief, but I can be a little long-winded at times. I'll definately be popping in here often, as I have a lot to learn. I appreciate any help you can give me with whatever questions I might have. At the moment, I'm just going to try building up my muscular endurance a bit and doing a fair amount of cardio. (I used to run about 5 miles a day, now I can't stand running. I'm guessing I'll enjoy it again once I can get a little further than a block or two.)
If you made it this far, thanks for sticking around. I'll post pictures when I get a little more time. (I'm at work right at the moment.)
Thank you all. I hope to make some of the same changes in my body that many of you have and I'm looking forward to your advice.
Take care,
Ron
