Protein at 1.5/lb, same with carbs, each making up 40% of total caloric intake. The rest is fat cals.

the 1.5 - 2 is for gaining (bulking) right?

i still am unsure of what the total cals i should be consuming is

That's right for the most part.

To answer your calorie consumption question:

bulking: body weight x 16-17
maintenence: body weight x 14
cutting: body weight x 10-12

(note: the range is to allow for different body types; some people gain or lose weight easier than others and should adjust their caloric intake appropriately).

Maybe this is covered somewhere else (still looking), but just in case:

From what I understand, my caloric intake should be 40% protein, 40% carb, 20% fat, right? Okay, protein and carbs are measured in grams, not calories.

So, if, for example, I'm eating a nutrition bar that is 180 calories total with 26g carbs and 10g protein, how many of the 180 calories are from carbs and how many are protein?

I'm pretty ignorant about how all this works. Am I going about it all wrong?

Thanks

It's pretty simple really:
1g of fat = 9 calories
1g of carbohydrate = 4 calories
1g of protein = 4 calories

So if you take 9*fat grams + 4*carb grams + 4*protein grams you should get the total calories. You won't though. I'm not sure why. I also don't think it's that big of a deal. Just like I think 18/38/43 is the same as 20/40/40, dig?
