I’m 22, 6’4” and 120kg. With a fair amount of fat, mainly on my upper body.

I have recently gone back to the gym with two goals, to lose weight, and to become stronger/ improve general fitness. This is primarily to improve my rugby and also the obvious health reasons.

Although I have only been training for just over a month I have seen noticeable results, which has been a great boost. However, I am at university in the days and work at nights, so my average week looks something like

Mon – uni then gym then work
Tues – uni then rugby training (mainly running about in the cold and wet!)
Wed – uni then gym then work
Thur – uni the rugby training
Fri – uni then cardio/light weights then work
Sat – play rugby then work
Sun – sleep!!!

My gym sessions consist of 20min warm up on cross trainer. Weights ( normally 3 sets, 12 10 8, but recently considering MAX OT ) then 10 min row, 15 min run.

I often feel drained and weak for either the gym or training, and would appreaicate any advice with regards to diet, training techniques, whatever really as I don’t know a lot about it all, although this site has been very informative.

Thanks

Jingo

it's tough to cut in most people's terms along with a full sports program and gym time.

You are probably feeling weak due to not eating enough. Try upping your intake but keep it clean and healthy. With the amount of exercise you're getting you can probably take in a hell of a lot of good clean food and will still lose fat.

Id get protien shakes, as with all that excersize and not enough protein, ur body will go into a catabolic state and break ur muscle down. Keeping a high level of protein is essential, even during fatloss.

I took creatine and didnt like it. It did improve things temporarily, but then your naturally produded level lowers and soon your supllimenting to keep at a level ud be at naturally anyways. The theory is that u then come off the stuff to get ur natural level back up and so on. Problem is that when you stop supllimenting, your body levels are actually lower, as your not producing much naturally, so you feel crap and energy-less for ages till you get back to the normal level. And for the extra rep it gives, its just not worth it.

And cut the beer down. ;)

I know how you feel. I'm studying full time (about 40 hours per week) and I work about 30 hours per week. The job isnt that hard, actually if Im on these forums it means Im probably at work, but I never really have any spare time. If I have a spare hour, I generally think I should be resting instead of training because without rest I'll have a nervous breakdown or something. Im beginning to realise that I can handle a lot more than I can think and once my brain understands this my body will too and I wont feel as stressed and tired all the time. What Im saying is that although I am very busy, some of the tiredness is all in my mind.

It was funny when I read your post. I read your stats and immediatly thought 'he'd be good rugby player' and then in the next line you mentioned you did play rugby :)
