View Full Version : Those last few calories in the evening...
pminn Thu, May 11th, 2006, 02:49 PM Body comp info: 5'5", currently 138 lbs. I started 1/3/06 at 152 lbs. I've been eating clean since that day. I do total body weight workout Mon and Thurs and LISS or HIIT on treadmill Tues, Wed, Sat and Sun, with Fri off.
After spending the first 14 weeks of this year eating 1100-1200 calories per day (scale showed a drop of 10 lbs.), in the last three weeks I've increased to around 1600-1700. My clothes are looser and the scale is down 4 lbs. But in the evening, after checking with fitday and finding myself at around 1400, I look in the kitchen for another 200-300 calories and find myself staring at the low-fat tub of Edy's ice cream. Now, since "calories are calories", how terrible would it be to consume 3/4 cup of this tasty treat once in a while instead of cottage cheese? :p
karatetricker Thu, May 11th, 2006, 02:59 PM Once in a while - no problem.
Every night - will slow fat loss. How much, who knows?
I usually fill my calorie needs with ice cream, cookies, candy, etc a few times a week and it doesn't seem to hurt me. However, when I was doing it almost daily, the fat wasn't coming off as fast. Just my experience.
TheRyanator Thu, May 11th, 2006, 03:00 PM Cottage cheese is WAY better than ice cream I am sure, but everyonce in awhile will not hurt...
wh0rume Thu, May 11th, 2006, 03:02 PM dont listen to kt, he's a genetic freak.
dont do it, calories are not calories when it comes to sugar and sweets like that - especially right before bed.
but if you want, try it for yourself for a few months and post your before/after pics.

I'm not a genetic freak. I just keep my calorie consumption low enough so that figuring in activity, calories in < calories out. Sure by eating ice cream, it may slow the process down a bit, but if you do it once in a while, it'll do negligible harm and let's face it, ice cream tastes a hell of a lot better than cottage cheese. :eat:
pminn Thu, May 11th, 2006, 03:07 PM Ok, cottage cheese it is. Thanks, all. In the meantime, maybe I'll find some sugar free ice cream at the grocer's in case of emergency.

If you're going to do it wrong, do it right. (http://www.coldstonecreamery.com)
GraceGirl Fri, May 12th, 2006, 04:15 PM Mmmm...that Edy's new slow churned low fat ice cream is yummy. But back to the crux of the matter...as said, once in awhile it won't hurt. I just try to keep that stuff out of my house so it doesn't call my name. Besides, I find that some cottage cheese mixed with some splenda and cinnamon cures my sweet tooth quite well!!
pminn Fri, May 12th, 2006, 04:36 PM I usually don't have stuff like that in my house either, but my oldest daughter's wedding shower was last Saturday and there are still some goodies lingering. I love cottage cheese, and I eat mine with a few frozen pineapple chunks stirred in.
Hort Fri, May 12th, 2006, 06:11 PM You could always go with another whey shake too (casein if you prefer) but whey, combined with some flax oil or fish oil (or both) will work well later at night, as long as it's not near your post-lifting nutrition.
