Ah! This is not my week. I just ordered from At Large and received my order today. I also ordered something from another supplement company yesterday and a product of theirs I had been waiting for came back in stock right after I ordered.

heard so many great things, i thought i'd give it ATN a try :D. just ordered a fatloss stack (vanilla) and an opticen (choc). haha, i had to think long and hard. then i figured since opticen's a MRP i may as well order it in a flavor that i like by itself. the nitrean might end up getting mixed with other stuff so i figured a nice neutral vanilla would do the trick. looking forward to posting yet another "this stuff is awesome" type post :D. thanks for the great opportunity to try your products at a VERY reasonable price.

today i found out that the cheap protein (http://www.affordablesupplements.com/elite_whey_protein.asp) i've been getting (Dymatize) uses a sweetener (http://www.holisticmed.com/acek/) that causes cancer (http://www.holisticmed.com/acek/) in small animals, so i'm switching to nitrean

good timing.

woohoo!

Gonna buy like 9 Nitreans for the hell of it

Are there any special concerns when placing large orders?

For example, does shipping become more expensive if the order becomes too heavy?

Do I have to worry about the products going bad? It seems like I don't because the listed expiration label for my last tub was in 2010, and I consume a tub a month.

I was going to order 5x Chocolate Nitrean, 1x Vanilla Nitrean, and 1x Chocolate Opticen. I don't think I'm going to get sick of Nitrean any time soon.

What would my discount be for the Nitrean (before the JSF 10%). Would it be $24, saving $12 for each of the sets of three? I noticed on the webpage I would need to be sure to explicitly point out that the Chocolate and Vanilla Nitrean go together.

Thanks --

Ok, that post should become a JSF classic. I have been laughing for the last 10 mins after reading this

If it can make you feel better, some say whey protein can help boost the immune system and thus offer some sort of protection against cancer.

Which means it MAY increase cancer risk in humans.

So it may not, this is used in a lot of foods out there.

exactly - and with the amount of whey i currently consume in my diet, as well as in the future, i would be much happier knowing there's nothing "questionable" in the ingredients.

Well, I have been taking it for some time now and no cancer...

There are people that seem to think anything artificial is bad. You can find negative information about ANYTHING these days if you look hard enough.

I have seen no evidence of the ingredient being proven to be carcinogenic in humans.

The following link should help to sooth your nerves:

That is bad science and an erroneous correlation. Yes, some items that cause cancer in animals are carcinogenic in humans but others are not.

I do not want to die of cancer. I have NO concerns about using my products daily for the rest of my life (and plan to do so).

Send it for pickup at the nearest UPS/FedEx office (can't remember what ALN uses). Works just fine :)

You just use the address of their office, put your name and number on it, and then when it comes in you just go by and pick it up with ID.

That may be too much work... Good idea though.

While we're on the subject of asceful...whatever K, Chris how about you make a Nitrean blend with just plain ol' sugar as the sweetener? Like an all natural Opticen MRP with only plain cane sugar as the carb and no artificial flavors? I'd probably buy that.

Chris

It is not bad science to use animal testing to determine effects on biological systems before feeding the product to humans. It is also not bad science to base ones own decisions on these studies. I didn't correlate the cancer risk to humans due to the risk in animals from this sweetener. I said to keep in mind that it MAY - it is up to the end user to decide if the potential risk is acceptable to them. The reason we use animal testing is due to the great similarities in reaction to products. I do not extrapolate this to mean that all products react the same in people and animals. Personally, I limit my diet from enough cancer causing agents that I have given up trying to avoid all of them.

I am not bashing your product. I understand your defence of it. I will state that I have checked into ON whey and several other proteins too - they all use it. I enjoy your products Chris and I currently use Nitrean, but please do not assume that I have made conclusions when I haven't.

The chances are if it is a strong contributor to causing cancer it will be banned. Though, you would need to take a lot for it to do any harm. Most juices on the market contain flavourings etc, and some of these in high dosages are known to cause cancer. Which is why there is legislations on the levels that are safe to use. If it bothers you that much, use unflavoured whey. But then whey has been linked to its own problems. So what can you do?

A little information on the main sweetners used in whey products.

Acesulfame-potassium or Ace-K (Sunette or Sweet-One)

Though a newcomer to the marketplace (FDA approval in 1998), acesulfame-K is gaining popularity and is now used in thousands of foods, beverages and pharmaceutical products. It contains four calories per gram, and is 200 times sweeter than sugar.

Rumors: There have been claims that acesulfame-K causes cancer in animals and that the FDA approval of this product was based on flawed studies.

Research: The British Medical Journal in 1996 validates the rumors. "The studies on acesulfame-K used very poor-quality testing, and there are suggestions that it can cause cancer. The product needs to be retested by an independent third party. Until then, I suggest to trying to avoid it," says Jacobson.

Bottom line: This one makes me nervous.

Sucralose (Splenda)

Also a relative newcomer, Splenda's been around since 1976, but received FDA approval only in 1998. It has no calories and is 600 times sweeter than table sugar.

Rumors: Some believe there has not been adequate testing, and others say Splenda causes cancer, genetic changes, birth defects and immune system complications.

Research: More than 100 animal and human studies were evaluated over a period of two decades. "The results indicate that sucralose is completely safe," says Jacobson.

Bottom line: Looks like this is the one to use.

well lets see... it causes cancer in small animals when they are fed that item ALONE and NOTHING else.. you don't LIVE on that sweetener like those poor little animals do, so I don't think you have too much to worry about.. unless you're eating the stuff by the spoonful every half hour  :p I take those studies with a grain of sand... not many items taken in moderation will kill you... plutonium, arsenic those will kill ya in small doses... a sweetener probably not... unless it has arsenic in it :p

you know... I remember a study coming out in the 80's that said broccoli caused cancer... about five years later they came out and said... oops the study was in error... brocolli is really good for you... this is TRUE and shows you how bad some studies are... most studies are conducted by special interest groups that want the outcome to be in their favor so they set up the study to show the results they want to see... I'm not saying all studies are bogus, but many are.

If you notice products like Nitrean also contain other sweetners such as sucralose(Which so far seem totally safe), which would suggest only small amounts of acesulfame potassium are used. Whereas protein powders such as Met-Rx supreme whey only used acesulfame K.

So maybe that will help ease your mind as well. :tu:
