View Full Version : Chatroom? yay or nay?
Funeral Fri, March 26th, 2004, 11:08 PM The question I have is this, I am willing to setup an IRC Chatroom for the population of this board to make fast work of small and simple questions and a chance for all of us to come together and just have an everyday chat, I would also be willing to make this same chat in yahoo chat, if people here tend to use yahoo more, up's and downs are that IRC does not support voice chat as yahoo does, yet IRC is a more stable client. I was just wondering if you guys think I should set this up, who would really use it? or maybe there already is one that I dont know about.
Thanks
Derek.
daciz2 Fri, March 26th, 2004, 11:40 PM sounds good. Make it an irc chat that you just have to press a link and you're there.
taffer Sat, March 27th, 2004, 01:34 AM sounds good, make sure you get an official OK though
Funeral Sat, March 27th, 2004, 02:39 AM Yeah i would run it by john, if ever i get a chance to talk to him, yet, i dont see any reason for him to be aposed to the idea, just another way to bring the community together.

I'm on IRC a fair ammount and would definately use the channel if there was one - good idea, but as has been said, make sure to get John's OK.
Luke.S Sat, March 27th, 2004, 05:27 AM Yey :tu:
Stanzo Sat, March 27th, 2004, 05:42 AM I definately like the idea of a chatroom, all that IRC talk and stuff means nothing to me at all ! But yeah to a chatroom, if John thinks is OK obviously. :)

Soon, but not yet. Thanks.

Wonder if this will get revisited soon.
I supposed "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is pretty applicable here, since most people seem happy with the forums alone. It also saves John a lot of headaches.
I think a JS chatroom is something I probably would visit from time to time, but I'm not marking for it.
The community would just be sent off in a whole new direction, IMO.

Marcman Sat, July 10th, 2004, 04:23 AM I think an IRC chatroom would be fun to try for us addicts that just sit on the forums all day waiting for new posts. Could sit in the chatroom and chat endlessly about our fitness obsessions.
plus, an IRC chatroom initially requires like no maintenance or supervision....just have someone idle in a chatroom as an op for a while to see if it picks up any speed. If it does grow wildly popular, im sure that some of the uber-nerds on this board would be willing to donate a few eggdrop bots to supervise the channel and put in some fun trivia challenges
maybe try an *unofficial* one just to see if people go?

Shadow12 Sat, July 10th, 2004, 05:46 AM Chatroom would be cool.
freelancer Sun, July 11th, 2004, 03:34 PM i would love a chatroom
escher Mon, July 12th, 2004, 08:14 AM I think a chatroom would be great. Sometimes you have a question, but its not important enough to make a full fledged post, or it could be nice to 'chat' with the JSF groupies! Has there been an unofficial one created yet, or is there an official one still coming?
naturalofcourse Mon, July 12th, 2004, 08:37 AM Why not just jump into Yahoo Chat, and create a JSF room? Throw a link to the chat room in the QUICKLINKS Tab here, and John wouldn't have to worry about setting up or maintaining anything himself. Yahoo would love it, with the hits that room would get. It wouldn't be banner free, but...
Just an idea.
wesaft Mon, July 12th, 2004, 09:24 AM I would visit the irc channel, official or not.
TheLemonSong Mon, July 12th, 2004, 06:08 PM If there were a chatroom (which I would LOVE to see) I think I'd be even more addict to it than to the boards and that makes me nervous that posting might go down a little bit...so if you make a chat John, or someone else, I hope the boards stay as they are.
wesaft Tue, July 13th, 2004, 08:24 AM perhaps have a daily log from the chat that comes up as a new post every day in a new forum category?
then everyone can read?

This is perfect. It saves John a lot of work, while being an 'interim' unofficial chatroom for all the marks here. It would be a good proving ground for the 'need' to set up a chatroom on this site.
Good on ya, naturalofcourse.

escher Tue, July 13th, 2004, 04:51 PM I attempted to create a JSF chat room in yahoo, but didnt have any luck. Anyone else want to try making a room someplace?
