Hi,
when I eat whey protein I feel slightly sick. This starts right after eating and lasts for about a half hour. As diet sodas have the same effect on me I assume this might be from the artificial sweeteners.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Are there any unsweetened protein supplements I could use instead?
(I am currently cutting but switching to a bulk in a few weeks)
Thanks for your help! faraway

You could search around for a different type of sweetner. What type does what you are using have?
You could even get a custom mix from somewhere like www.trueprotein.com . You can pick whatever, including the natural stevia.

You 'd have to do some more experienced research, trial and error before jumping to "it's the artificial sweeteners".
Have you confirmed the same sweetener is in both?
What kind of whey are you using (type and brand)? How much in a meal? Whey concentrates gave me gas and occasional stomach issues, which the carbonation in diet sodas also do. So that might also be a possibility.
What are you mixing the whey in? Milk by any chance?

Thanks for all the answers and links. I know I might be jumping to conclusions here. The sweetener in the current whey is acesulfame potassium, which seems to be in most proteins.
The reason I believe it has something to do with the sweeteners is that I have no problems what so ever with regular coke, but diet coke makes me feel sick to my stomach. The only difference should be the sweeteners. However, I am not sure what is used for diet coke as there seem to be different versions. According to wikipedia in central Europe it can contain acesulfame potassium. Also, I didn't always have this problem with diet coke, this developed in the last couple of years.
I have tried different brands of whey: Cytosport, Prolab, Jay Robb's, and some others I can not remember. Between 30 and 40 gramms of protein per serving, mixed with water, milk, fruit juice. It seems to be a bit better if I mix in a lot of carbogydrates like fruits or oates, but I still feel it.
Having my own protein custom mixed seems to be going slightly overboard, but I'll have a look at the website. I guess I could try the hydrolyzed whey. At least I would know that it is not the whey itself my stomach does not tolerate.

I have just placed an order for a custom mix from trueprotein without any sweeteners. I'll let you know how that works for me. Thanks :tu:
