View Full Version : FINALLY busting my weight plateau!!
vortex72 Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:14 AM This morning I was 212.5 wohoo!!
My goal is 185-190 but it feels nice to finally quit bouncing the 214-217 yo-yo.
Funny thing is, I skipped 2 cardio days this week and actually ate slightly above maintenance before I got this loss. The loss isnt a fluke because I've been trending down all week since I changed my diet.
I was eating 50p/40f/10c (modified keto)
This has worked so well for me for so long but I had to change it up.
Now I'm doing 40p/30c/30f. I knocked off roughly 25g/day on my fat intake (now eating 60-70g/day vs 90-100). The carbs I'm eating are mostly low gi carbs. I was really paranoid about trying this diet modification because I HATE to be hungry. On the keto diet with higher fat, I was rarely hungry even with the same cals. Honestly, i have had to deal with some hunger pangs this week, but nothing too bad. I'm just adjusting to eating more carbs which my body tends to crave.
Just thought I'd share.
peace.
tashimarie Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:21 AM thats awesome! cant wait until i have some lost weight to report lol......but unfortunately i gained 2 pounds over night grrrrrr lol......keep it up!
Duckman Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:41 AM Awesome! I've been on a plateau the last month, but since last week, I've lost 2.2 lbs :tu:
And last sunday I had my 29th birthday, and ate 3 MASSIVE pieces of cake...
jamester Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:57 AM I've been on quite a plateau since Decemberish. I'm down from a high of 300, but in December when I stopped going to WW, I was around 240. In January, I was 239. Since then, I've been bouncing between 233 and 239 - just not able to shake the upper 230's.
Part of it was a lack of motivation and belief. I just didn't feel that I would be successful, and therefore I didn't even really go through the motions. I kept at it enough to keep my weight stable, but not enough to lose.
Now, I'm on the tail end of my first week of Body-for-LIFE - and although I haven't been following the nutrition as closely as I should, I can *feel* changes coming. I weighed today just for fun (I don't weigh every day anymore) and found that I'm still at 233.4 - but I really feel like I'm about to make a big move out of that range. 233 is about as low as I've been in months!!
jamester Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:59 AM And last sunday I had my 29th birthday...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Duckman! =)
daveo Fri, March 26th, 2004, 10:25 AM Funny thing is, I skipped 2 cardio days this week and actually ate slightly above maintenance before I got this loss. The loss isnt a fluke because I've been trending down all week since I changed my diet. I keep seeing this pattern over and over. People get stuck in a rut (or plateu) and when they change something, they start losing again. Typically people do the same thing as you did: skip a bit of training and eat a bit more.
I guess you were overtrained?
darkeblue Fri, March 26th, 2004, 11:18 AM Awesome!
I am very happy for you. I have been in around the same funk you were in and was unable to get out of the 210-212 range for about a month. The two big changes that I made were 1) I stopped eating after 7:30PM and 2) I increased my caloric intake by about 300 calories. Guess what? Today I weighed in at 204! I have lost about 6lbs in the last 10 days, when the previous 30 before that, I was stuck at 212. Amazing what a little change to the diet will do to ya.
It feels great shocking the system!
Paradigm Fri, March 26th, 2004, 06:04 PM Haha wow, nice job bud. I'm in a weight plateau myself. I'm stuck at 215 and can't seem to break it. Grrr.
JeremyLikness Fri, March 26th, 2004, 07:01 PM Congrats to the plateau-busters and best of success to those waiting to have their breakthrough!

Funeral Fri, March 26th, 2004, 07:43 PM Good job, I have been at a strange flux for the past year or so, ( but i have not been eating right or working out ) i have been going between 230 -250, I dont really have a goal weight, I'm just going to start loosing until i am happy and comfortable, then retool everything to hold weight and build muscle.
good job agian!

Aye, it worked for me. Stuck at 172 for a couple of weeks (my sig is out of date), I upped my calories by 400 and switched to regular cardio. I didn't lose at this point, but then I shocked my system by going back to HIIT and lowering my calories, and off went five pounds in a short period of time.
ibrewale Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:04 PM I've been stuck at 220 for about 2 full weeks now, and you guys have given me motivation to 'change' some stuff up. I will lower my calories 200 for the next couple of days, and then maybe raise it 400 for a few days....give that a shot.
Thanks
Jerry
psuguy98 Fri, March 26th, 2004, 10:09 PM It's funny how the body works.
I was on business for four days and other than light morning walks on the treadmill in the morning, I really didn't do much cardio or lifting for that matter. I ate a lot during my four days traveling ( you can't mass up free meals on the company) and I came back to find I actually lost .4 lbs in 4 days after all the eating i did. I was previously stuck at the infamous plateau and the extra days off from lifting and such actually gave me metabolism a boost.
good luck to all

Jerry, take a look at the attached data. I put a red line where I got frustrated. For a week after that, I ate 500 more calories (quite the opposite of what you'd expect from a frustrated person in a hurry to lose weight) in order to get my metabolism back up and kicking. The spot after the third bump in a row is where I lowered it again.
It took confidence that I was on the right track, and patience to raise the calories and not lower them, especially for a whole week, but it really was the right idea.
I know you said you're already going to try this, I just thought this would be of interest.
HunkOLove Sun, March 28th, 2004, 09:52 PM I too have been bouncing around this plateau for about 3 weeks. I think I turned the corner by doing a little zig zag with the diet and ramping up the cardio. I acutally went from like 212 up to 218 then around 215 now I'm down to 210. It was crazy and very frustrating. I'm still bouncing some but trending down now overall. I can't wait to be back under 200! Go Team Go! :p
