View Full Version : how do you guys do it???
tashimarie Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:13 AM i have rarely ever eaten breakfast, the thought of eating first thing in the morning just never crossed my mind. well the last two days since i began my quest for healthy eating, i have eaten breakfast.......i really have to choke it down and hold back the urge to vomit, why is that? is that normal? yesturday i had wheat toast (plain) and a glass of OJ, this morning i had wheat toast (plain), an orange, and a cup of coffee....these are things i love so i cant figure out why eating them is making me sick. the desire to vomit disappears about a half hour after eating and i find that if i eat breakfast i am always hunger a few hours later, where as before i was never hungery even if i didnt eat but one meal a day.....whats up with that?
simon.karlsson Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:21 AM I know what you mean, some people just donīt like breakfast. And if you donīt eat breakfast you wonīt feel as hungry later as youīd do if you did, just as you say.
However Iīd recommend you what I do, go out and exercise first thing in the morning, go for a run for 20-30 min, and have a shower and then eat your breakfast. What you can change in the diet to make that hungry after ― hour feeling is to concentrate on slow carbonhydrates instead of the fast ones in the white weatbread for example. Try eating porridge or something that definately fills you up, If you donīt like it, try eating real foods such as chicken with vegetables or beef stew (ofcourse cooked in a low fat kinda way)
This is just my advice, I might be wrong, and you prob donīt like porridge :) But try the morning jogging, it really helps raising your metabolism throughout the rest of the day too.
tashimarie Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:24 AM thanks! is grits OK? i love em lol. as for the jogging, should i just get p and go? or should i drink water first?

Well that isnīt really important, if youīre thirsty drink water, if not, then wait til breakfast... I always bring a waterbottle with me out jogging, and always have my cup of coffie before jogging, and I eat a multivitamin pill and drink applecidervinegar too, donīt really know why, some ppl say it helps burning fat, but i doubt, I mostly take it as a psychological motivation boost! :)
tashimarie Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:29 AM thanks!
LiveWire Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:31 AM I didn't really eat breakfast for 12 years before I started making my health more of a priority in life. I would often go all day without eating anything until the afternoon. I found that breakfast made me nausiated when I first started eating it, but my body got over it after a week or so. You might try other things for breakfast. I know anything acidic like oranges and greatfruit make my stomach turn first thing in the morning. You may also want to add some sort of protein like a good yogurt or cottage cheese. If these don't work, you may want to try waiting a little bit later in the morning to eat. The reason you are probably feeling hungry is because you are kick starting you metabolism in the morning and the body likes to be fed every few hours to keep the metabolism in high gear all day.

that makes sense! i guess i'll try some yogurt, and maybe a glass of milk instead of juice
FourMat Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:40 AM I have the same problem in the morning. I know it's better to eat breakfast, but I have a really hard time. What I have taken to doing is getting up and going straight into the work out after drinking a glass of water. Once I'm up and active for about an hour, I can eat something. It's still makes me little queezy sometimes, but it's better. I can't imagine getting up, expending all that energy, then not having a little something to eat. By the time lunch comes around, I would be draggin' my rear end.
:: kna :: Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:42 AM I think people feel they ought to eat as soon as possible after getting up, and whilst this is desirable I found I could just never do it.
What I do now is get up at 6:30am, get ready and go to work, then eat breakfast (Oats) at work around 7:30. That's given me enough time to wake up and 'get going' so that I don't feel sick trying to force something down.
Leave it an hour or so after you wake before trying to eat and see if that helps.
Paul J Fri, March 26th, 2004, 08:46 AM you guys are nuts!
i love a HUGE breakfast....eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, waffles......oh yeah thats why i used to be so fat!!!!
hahaha!
anyways im just kidding, but it is important to eat a good breakfast, you need to get your metabolism going first thing in the morning if you are in any kind of a healthy eating plan. have some oatmeal and a protein shake...remember all the SUGAR thats in orange juice, if you are trying to loose wieght, dont forget that even though orange juice is good for you by way of vitamins, it has a ton of sugar which can slow down your wieght loss. good luck!

I agree with that...... I take a shower, get dressed and am totally ready for the day, then I eat breakfest. I never ate breakfest, the thought of food just didn't sound good in the morning. Now my body is used to it and I look foward to breakfest...... so just give it some time :eat:  :eat:

4:30 AM: Get up, bathroom, weigh, shower
5:00 AM: Get dressed, start packing food
5:30 AM: "Mini-breakfast", Protein shake + vitamins/supplements
7:00 AM: "Breakfast", oatmeal
So that's 2.5 hrs after I've gotten up that I'm really eating anything. I've had no problem with this.
:gl: :eat:
SirDizzy Fri, March 26th, 2004, 09:52 AM That's a similar problem to what I'm facing. I don't like to eat when I first get up. However, I go to the gym at 5am to do my workout. So I feel like I'm gonna puke if I try to eat enough beforehand, but I also feel like I'm going to puke at the end of a strenuous workout if I don't eat enough. Nothing makes me feel worse than doing a max-ot leg workout on an empty stomach at 5 in the morning.
Bookcat Fri, March 26th, 2004, 10:14 AM I workout on an empty stomach in the morning....resistance with light aerobic activity as a warm up and cool down. When 7:30am rolls around, I'm ready for some wheat bread, PB, and some whey protein. I'll admit, getting aclimated to eating breakfast is different if your body is used to one large lunch...but over time, with consistent morning training, your body will crave nutrients after your AM workout routine. In short, EAT a balanced BREAKFAST if you want to lose fat.....there is no way around it.
smiles Fri, March 26th, 2004, 10:14 AM I always skipped breakfast as well, and then when I started working out I took a multi-vitamin and had a decent breakfast in the morning. I started to get queasy about an hour afterward and kept wondering why. One day I skipped the multi-vitamin and there was no queasyness (this is like a Centrum Multi-vitamin)! So I stopped it and get my vitamins from meal replacement shakes and haven't had any more problems.

tashimarie Fri, March 26th, 2004, 10:18 AM wow, maybe that is an issue with the nausea, i take a prenatal vitamin every morning before i eat. while i never felt nausiated before with it, maybe the combination of food and the vitamin isnt good. i'll try and take the vitamin at night before bed instead...

The iron content is so high in those that it makes many people feel like they are getting sick. It's like 300% of the RDA. I don't like to eat before a workout either, but I do my All The Whey shake and a power bar to keep the workout feeling good. I was one that would feel sick if I didn't eat, but then again sick if I did. So this is the combination that works for me. That's what you will find out, we are all different and react differently to these. Good luck with the work outs and hopefully that nauseous feeling will go away.
metron9 Fri, March 26th, 2004, 11:02 PM I would never eat breakfast either and many times skp lunch having a few doughnuts of candy bars and then when I got home I would pork out on chips and cheese and salsa. I got up to 235 lbs now after 2 months iI am at 205. I eat either oatmeal and 1 slice of heavy grain bread with a low carb penut butter or eggs canadain bacon and the same toast. No orange juce. The reason you get so hungry is the insulin spike you give yourself with the orange juce and high glycmic carbs you are eating. Milk has lactose (sugar) and that yogart has mega sugar in it. Have low or no sugar and low glycmic carbs and you wont get so hungry. Anytime you have an insulin spike with a high starch or sugar meal you set yourself up for a hypoglycmic state, that creates the hunger you get later on. Just think about how hungry you get after a big plate of chowmein that has a bunch of MSG in it, (MSG is sugar) this is the only reason I have been able to curb my appatite so well, I just dont eat any high glycmic foods. I could spell a little better but I tried making some sugar free margaretas tonight and they were very good.
2 oz Florida Key Lime Juce
2 tsp splenda
2 oz teqila
blend with ice till stiff
Drink with a spoon, best I have ever made and no sugar or carbs.

Knubb Sat, March 27th, 2004, 04:12 AM Well, what can I say? Breakfast is definitly the coziest (is that even a word, or shoudl I say "most cozy"?) meal of the day, having had a waaaaaarm shower right before, sitting in your bathrobe, reading the comics in the newspaper (I heard someone tell me there are actually NEWS in newspapers, but I doubt that...) while eating a bowl of cereals or some good sandwiches. Oh, I just love it...
From my experience, I'm longing for food in the morning most when I've had something to eat not too long before going to bed the previous day. On a regular day, I don't get home from the gym until around quarter to nine, and that's just an hour fifteen before I go to bed, and that's when I have my last meal.
As far as hunger goes, I've noticed that once I get over a certain point of hunger, it fades away, and I can go forever without food. Being in this state, it's really hard for me to eat anything, even if I want to.
The conclusion I've drawn, is that perhaps this phenomena is what kicks in during the night. If you sleep for 7-8 hours, and haven't had a meal for 3-4 before you went to bed, thats a good 12 hours without food. If you're one of those who quickly get over the point of no hunger, you'll probably feel sick eating in the morning.
I'm aware of the fact that there are a lot of theories out there saying you shouldn't eat before bedtime, since you sleep worse and it's bad if you wanna lose weight, and stuff like that. I, on the other hand, don't believe that food intake should do bad for your weightloss at any point during the day as long as you keep within your recommended calorie intake over the entire day. Also, I feel I sleep better if not being hungry while going to bed.
Those are my thoughts on the subject...
