View Full Version : I wore out my exercise bike!
JVib Wed, April 26th, 2006, 11:16 AM I bought a Proform Whirlwind exercise bike at Sears on 4/7/06. About 3 weeks ago the bearings on the left pedal started to grind. Then, this morning at the end of my workout the belt slipped. I had to pedal backward to get the belt back on track, but it wouldn’t stay that way for more then a few rotations.
What a piece of junk this bike is. I only bought it because it was on sale for $250 and it looked similar to the Schwinn Airdyne.
Oh well.
I plan on ordering a Schwinn Airdyne bike ASAP. Has any one had any experience with one of these?
Any suggestions on what to do in the mean time? I don't want to give up 1-2 weeks of high intensity morning cardio (but I may have no choice) I can’t jog (bad knees). I could walk in the morning, but that is dependent on the weather & doesn’t have great intensity.
jwdiho Wed, April 26th, 2006, 11:42 AM Opps! Violation of rule #7. Red lights flashing.
JVib Wed, April 26th, 2006, 01:49 PM Did I really break a rule??

Oh crap- I was just on this exact bike this morning and it has been making noise and not feeling right- if you notice proform (thier site) does not even show this bike as one they sell. So I have a limited time left on this bike- that blows- you get what you pay for I guess!!!
HevyMetal Wed, April 26th, 2006, 03:17 PM No parts book that came with Bike? Is it still under warranty?
Can't be all that hard to replace a pedal bearing if they'll give you one under warranty.
At leats that way you'd get a few more miles out of it.
JVib Wed, April 26th, 2006, 03:28 PM Mine is still under warranty, but I would have to take time off from work and wait for a repair person to come & fix it. It would get fixed with the same cheap parts and then break again in the next few months.
I bought mine at Sears and they have a 90 day return policy. I can get my money back, less a 15% restocking fee. I'll be dumping it off at thier loading dock tonight.
Bulwark Wed, April 26th, 2006, 05:55 PM When I was 16 and started to workout, all I used was an airdyne. Lost 10 lbs of fat in 2 months only 20 mins 5 times/week. Just ride hard. Sounds like you do that anyway if you already killed the other:)
Peace

I have returned pieces of equipment to Sears and they never charged a restocking fee. I returned them in open boxes with the pieces tossed in and told them it was broken.
JVib Thu, April 27th, 2006, 08:26 AM Well. I returned the peice of junk to Sears last night and they did not charge me a restocking fee.
I borrowed my parents pickup to return it and my father gave me his recumbent bike. He paid $1000 for it 5 years ago and hasn't used it since. I didn't bother to check the brand on it this morning (I will check tonight).
So, I tried it this morning. It has programs like a lifecycle. I set it to level 9 on "interval" for 30 min and started. The cardio intensity wan't as good as the other bike because there is no upperbody involvement. But, man did quads start to burn after about 20 min.
Well, what can I say.......it was free and it will last a long time. I am thankful for that.
