View Full Version : ALways wondered about those chest things...
deleteall Sun, April 23rd, 2006, 07:19 PM Not really planning on getting them, but i've always wondered about those various "chest expanders." Some have the two handles and a spring that you pull put or the straight spring with handles that you bend into a U shape. Anyone?????

They work well but no way to increase resistance after you get use to them.
HevyMetal Sun, April 23rd, 2006, 08:51 PM The second one you mention is called a "Bullworker"
The first one you mention used to be popular years ago for newbies because you could get them cheap at any big department store.
( I had one at the time....in the 60's).
I don't know why they called it a chest expander....because when you pull it from each end you are working your back.
You could start with one coil spring in it and work your way up to 5 springs.
Tame in comparison to today's stuff.

But instead of rubber cords they used wire springs which if held against your body when expanded, would catch your body hair and pull it out.
Ouch!:(

If he was talking about cables or springs, of course you can increase resistance to a point most of us can't do. A 5 or 6 spring set can bow over the strongest of men. I think they are great pec and tricep, and lats builders.
They are good for travel, very portable.

Always wear a shirt when you use one. They work well. As a kid, I saw some good upper bodies bult by them.
