tashimarie Thu, March 25th, 2004, 03:19 PM well since my husband is not into the idea of becoming physically fit and eating healthier, i have incorporated the use of a dog.....well puppy actually........only problem is PUPPYS wont run on a leash! (my puppy is only 6 weeks old......*sigh* should have went for an older 'puppy' that would actually run, guess i have to wait to take her with me lol. anyone else use a pet as a fitness companion?
baldridges Thu, March 25th, 2004, 03:44 PM At times I will take my dog with me. He is a little guy, so the more I run, and faster I get, the more tired he gets. So I don't know how long I will be able to use him, his little heart may not be able to take much. You can see a pic of him on the front page of our site: www.stephenandhollie.com (http://www.stephenandhollie.com)

Might I recommend a Siberian Husky? :). Trust me, my dog was born to run....unfortunately, I jog mostly in a gym.
Don't worry, your dog will be big enough soon enough. Mine grew expontially during his first four months.

tashimarie Thu, March 25th, 2004, 04:19 PM THANKS! I went with a rottweiler puppy, i hope shes not a lazy dog lol. once it warms up my daughter will be walking with me as well but she will be pushing the stroller lol.
ookpik Thu, March 25th, 2004, 08:35 PM I use my dog as a wind down in the evening. He gets his walk around nine at night. I work out in the morning so I find I enjoy the "outing" in the evening that isn't of the hard core fitness variety. I find it great on leg day to help to stretch things out.

You have a Rottweiler??!!
So... she's gonna get reasonably big, and she's gonna want exercise. When that dog gets a little older, and can keep up with you, it is not going to be a problem. You'll be dragged around. :)
Another thing to be careful about with a little pup is that they're fragile and tire easily when young - if she doesn't want to run, let her rest - the dog will catch up to your jogging quickly, in time.

My parents have a dog that is half husky and I used to try to run with him. You are right, they are born to run! The problem is that he is so huge that he was taking me for a run rather than vice versa. And he would occasionally want to stop to smell trees or the ground for no apparent reason so it seemed that he was dominating my pace. Anyway, I gave up, but he is a wonderful dog and I am sure that if I would have kept it up he would have learned. I just had no patience back then.
