View Full Version : Sleep difficulties while cutting
Maxen Sat, April 15th, 2006, 07:01 AM Does anyone here besides me experience hard times falling asleep during the first weeks on a restrictive diet? I usually avoid exercising at late hours and try to relax before going to bed, but my body seems to respond with a chock to the lack of carbs (or something). Usually this problem go away after a few weeks, but they also can come back if I cut down the calories enough.
Is there anything I can do about this problem? :blank:

Timbermiko Sat, April 15th, 2006, 12:28 PM I have had this problem in the past, big time.
I incorporate mrp's in both my cutting and bulking plans...
My favorite is chocolate Met-rx(yum!) I read somewhere that the mrp's might have something to do with it so late in the eve., I don't beleive it to be cafffiene related, there is none, or very little...more related to an insulin spike.
I read from a past Mr. U.S.A. to try a tablespoon of peanut buter before bed....helps saiet(sp?) and helps with the sleeping.
Sometimes I replace the p.b. with a slice of 2% chedder cheese.
These have helped me:tu:
Hort Sat, April 15th, 2006, 12:42 PM Maybe it's just that you are hungry/thirsty?
Bambam07 Sat, April 15th, 2006, 12:59 PM I find that if I take my fat burner too late in the day I am still wired, so unless I am training I stop the fat burners at 3pm, 5pm on training days. Been good since.

You mean like caffeine? I drink one cup of coffee every morning and some green tea in the afternoon, but besides that I'm pretty much clean...

Peanut butter is pretty rare here in Sweden but I'll give it a try if I'll find some :tu:
Is it the fat that makes you sleepy?
betastas Sat, April 15th, 2006, 07:37 PM Dump the afternoon tea. I had some issues with that too. Less food makes your more sensitive to caffiene it seems.

I believe so....
Wolfstriked Sun, April 16th, 2006, 01:10 PM Are you eating carbs in last meal.If your eating a protein/fat meal this could be the reason why.
Carbs make body secrete seratonin. This hormone relaxes you and makes you sleepy.
Theres a book out called "potatoes not prozac".The author says to eat just a potato right before bed with no protein. This will cause a rise in insulin which causes tyrptophan to flood the brain making gobs of seratonin. The amino acid tryptophan will have no other amino acids to compete against for entrance into brain if no protein is consumed.
It wokrs for me but my hypoglycemia kicks in dropping my blood sugar low and I wake up.If you have no sugar symptoms it will work its charm on you,not only promoting deep sleep and refreshed awakening but also fights depression, hence the riddence of prozac.:read:
If its 3am and im still staring at ceiling i eat 10 sweettarts and its lights out:).I get up at 4:30 so i awake as soon as hypoglycemia kicks in.I was gonna experiment with eating 10 sweet tarts and a super slow release carb such as barley.I may try it.

I think there is some truth to this...I try to cut my carbs somewhat in the evening and since I started doing this (coupled with a total daily caloric deficit), I have had some trouble sleeping to say the least. And to top it off, I drink a TON of water so I am up peeing two times per night (minimum) and once I am awake, I can feel the hunger.
Anyhow, that is my two cents. If anyone has more suggestions, I would be up for hearing them.
Thanks
