Ah, what do I have to be afraid of? What do you have to be afraid of? There are 300+ million people living in the US, I'd venture that over 300 million of those people don't give half a shit about your near nude pics online - especially because we're achieving something - your post is proof of that.

Besides, someday, I'm going to direct people to my thread to say "look what I did".

Looking good!

Thanks RTE! The lament about muscle mass was more about what 3 years of booze, fast food, and no exercise did to my physique. I'd been holding out some hope that the muscle was still there, just covered in fat. Nevermind that my dumbbell shoulder press dropped over 50%. :o :p

Silver - Seriously, the women I've been meeting recently seem to scour the 'net for all the background they can muster. I actually had a girl uncover photos off of a distant college friend's website that were really less than flattering. John kindly changed my username here after I was informed that a friend was finding my old username (which is linked to a bunch of professional sites) and posts here off of Google.

There's also the credibility aspect there. I'm shootin' my mouth of in this forum like the second coming of John Basedow and am hardly a shredded or yoked individual. I never have been above, I'd say, a 90% physique aesthetically. I have, however, been in tremendous physical shape. I'm still pretty embarassed by my current condition. I would've considered it sloppy and small three years ago.

That said, I'm tellin' everybody! My friends are coming out of the woodwork to tell me how great I look and how I'm starting to look like my old self again. Seems like they didn't want to say anything as I let myself atrophy. Fair enough. I don't know how well I would've taken it.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Just a bit pumped at the moment. G'night.

Given your avitar I wasn't expecting you to look so conservative. Good job though.

Thanks! The week 0 shot was after deciding to get a crew cut for the hell of it. My appearance changes from month to month, though it's getting more conservative as more miles tick off the odometer.

To determine my bodyfat I take three sets of tape measurements (locations specified above) and average them out for each area. I plug the averages into HealthCentral's home bodyfat calculator (http://www.healthcentral.com/cooltools/nutrition/homebodyfattest.aspx) to get Result 1. Then I take three 3-point skinfold readings with my digital calipers (FatTrackII) and average those together for Result 2. Final result is determined by averaging Result 1 and Result 2 together. I don't think it's too accurate (still think I'm pretty flabby for someone at 15.5% bodyfat) but it seems to be consistantly innacurate and gives me a good idea of my progression. It also, I'm certain, would give me a heads-up if I started losing lean mass.

Foley - Cheers bud! :D :tucool:

Took my SGX week 0 shots. I actually gained weight this week and went down in bodyfat. Those missing Lean Mass lbs from the stats in the initial post showed back up. 5.35 lbs gained. Hurrah for a week off the weights. Hurrah for getting back to 'em tomorrow!

SGX Week 0 (http://www.foolserrand.com/SGX/Week_00/Week_00_Comp.jpg)

Measurements Week 0 | Week 13 | Difference

First weigh-in with SwoleCat happens tonight.

If you've been reading my journal, you may have noticed me wondering what's up with my midsection. It actually felt like I was getting fatter there. Considering that my scale weight hasn't changed in two weeks yet I'm fitting into jeans that I couldn't breathe in two weeks ago, I figured I had to be losing fat everywhere and it just looked particularly flabby around my waist.

Yeah...I'd say that's the case.

I've lost a friggin' 1.75" off of my waist in two weeks. It's obvious in the fit of my clothes and I think it shows in the pictures. This SGX is the real deal. I cannot WAIT to see pics two weeks from now.

Very very cool, now think about SGX at 100%! ;)

Seriously, it's evident that you are a great responder to the program and
principles, so I extend the same encouragement I did in e-mail here as well. Attack this now with even more attention to detail, and you can see what will happen in the next 4-6 weeks. :tucool:

U can do it, u know where to find me if need be.

~SC~

M@
Thu, May 4th, 2006, 12:01 AM
The man himself! I'm seeing firsthand why SC has such a devoted legion of followers. SGX, as I told him, has shattered everything I thought I knew about cutting. The philosophy is radically different than what I was doing before and what I would've planned to do these 12 weeks if I hadn't decided to go with SGX.

Very very cool, now think about SGX at 100%! ;)

Wanted to explain this for anybody reading: The results I've gotten so far are better than any comparable 2-week span since I started cutting in January. They've also occurred:

1. Without any of the supplements for the first week.
2. Without all of the supplements until today.
3. Without a solid handle on the macro ratios in my meals. I've been kind of eyeballing it in most cases.
4. Without enough familiarity with the plan to "wing" meals, usually resulting in screwing up the macros and essentially "cheating"
5. With 4 total cheat meals in two weeks, each one a serious carbohydrate binge.

So when SC says imagine what SGX'll do at 100%, I'm imagining some pretty incredible shit.

Food scale gets purchased tomorrow. :P

Philly - Hell yeah! LOVE the back shot. :D :D :D

Fri, May 5th, 2006, 09:44 AM
Silver - Thanks bud! It's awesome to hear that other people see the same differences I do.

IWAC - I was totally of the same opinion and was on the fence about SGX up until just about four weeks ago. A post from Bluestreak (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showpost.php?p=305804&postcount=22), combined with the fact that summer was only ten weeks away, tipped the scales in favor of going with the program.

I was very skeptical of the SwoleCat fedayeen in this forum. The cult mentality and dogmatic adherence to the program seemed a little too bizzare. Now that I'm doing it I realize that 1. I can't say much on the boards except to advocate the program 'cause otherwise I'd be disclosing information vital to SC's business. 2. I am getting results that impress the hell out of me using training and nutrition methods that go against most of what I thought I knew about cutting.

I'm not trying to sell the program. Just wanted to let you know that I understand where you may be coming from and to share my perspective from the other side.

sfc01 - Haha, yeah, even less hair this round. At this rate my eyebrows will be gone by July. Good riddence...to the body hair at any rate. I loathe it.

SK - Yeah, if you can believe that. I wasn't gorging myself or skipping workouts or anything but I wasn't dead-on with the nutrition. Maybe about 80-85%. Now I'm at 100% with my first perfect day being yesterday. I wrought utter destruction on my legs last night and am moving around fine today (though they're definetly letting me know I worked 'em) so I'm getting conditioned to the program. As good as this round's results were, May 17th's should be astounding.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. Feels great. :D :tucool:

escher - Thanks a lot man! I'm hoping to get cut up and then start packing on the plates of muscle like you've got going on. Great physique!

Andy - I meant to make a post about this. Went to my GP and asked her about it 'cause I'd never noticed that 'til taking these pictures. She said she couldn't detect any curvature but that she'd give me a referral to a spine specialist if I wanted. I haven't taken her up on it.

Some of the shift is barrel-distortion from the digital camera. More of it is my slouch. I dunno where I picked it up but when I'm relaxed I carry more weight on my right hip and shift into the contraposto thing you see in the pictures.

I'm still debating the referral. When I look at the flexing shots, everything looks fine. If I crank up the contrast on any of the back-shots in Photoshop my spinal cavity is ruler-straight. Dunno. I'm still on the fence.

Do you carry a briefcase or anything on one shoulder frequently? After I had my portacath put in, I had to avoid my left shoulder with my laptop bag, and I found myself leaning a lot more as I always carried it on my right.

Now I carry it in my hand, and figure it's a good grip workout :D

It probably isn't a big deal if you've never had any pain or problems. I don't know why it jumped out at me, but it is always on the right, no matter which direction you face. Maybe it isn't the spine, but the shoulder that is lower? Dunno.

I've got my own posture issues, so I'm paying attention to this more I guess.

I'm shriiinkiiiiing!

All of my measurements have gone down this week. Every one. Some by a little, some by a lot. Don't think any of it has been muscle, though. I've been on SGX at 100% these past two weeks. That could explain the total-body reduction I'm experiencing. I just feel and measure leaner.

Edit: Forgot to add -- Scale weight is going down again. I'm at 197.5 as of this morning. Seems that since I've gotten the food scales and gotten with the program the fat loss pace has increased while lean mass gain remains constant. Good stuff.

Pictures don't do justice to the difference i see in the mirror. I've really cut a lot of fat in the past two weeks. Sweet! That's what I'm here to do. Check it out for yourself:

Message to my middle and lower abs: Any day you guys wanna get it in gear is fine with me! :bang:

Not that I'm displeased with this week's results. They are, of course, the best yet. Everything's equalized in the measurements too and I'm showing a totall loss of 10.98 lbs fat (-1.83 lbs/week) and a net gain of 2.48 lbs lean mass (+.41 lbs/week). That's a little better than I was doing on my own. I don't think I could've gotten the muscle/strength gains I have so far if I'd done things on my own. Also, considering that every week is showing improvement in terms of efficiency, I expect the results to get even better in the 2nd half of the program.

So that's really it. I'm halfway through my SGX consultation. I'm thrilled with what's transpired thus far and am expecting enormous strides over the next couple of weeks. This seems to be the "Sweet Spot" for the program.

Flash is evil. Natural light from a window is much more flattering and will show better definition. However, since you've begun the progress pics with flash, it's best to keep it consistent.

If you weren't so worried about privacy, you'd take your pictures at a local park, like abdominator (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showpost.php?p=247108&postcount=57). That's gotta be the secret.

I'm laughing my ass off.

I cannot f'ing believe the difference between January's photos and today's (http://www.foolserrand.com/JSF/062806_All.jpg). I was such a hulking sack of crap! How in the hell did I let that happen?!?!

The photos from today are my "I'm back" photos. By that I mean that this is what I'm used to looking like. This is the amount of bodyfat I carried around for roughly 20 years. Maybe +/- 5lbs depending on activity level but I feel like I'm in my old skin again.

Now it's time to get better than ever!

It cracks me up that ten weeks ago I thought I was pretty lean. Compared to January, yeah. Compared to now I was still holding on to a couple dozen big-macs worth of fat.

...all this and still no abs. They're not far now though. I've got all summer to get 'em, too.

So what I love about the current photos, aside from the above, is the increased calf definition and the separation that's starting to occur in my delts. The fact that I can see the band of the middle delts in the relaxed back picture is awesome. I'm also loving the deeper groove in my lower back now that I can finally do deadlifts with a challenging weight.

Coachese - Definetly amazing! I'm curious as to whether it looks more ripped because of the low fat cell content of that area, it's responding better to weight training than other muscle groups, or it's that I usually train it the day after my free-day and have loads of fuel in my system.

specialk - So you'd be huge in addition to looking like a Men's Health cover model? :blank: With the dedication you've put forth you'll be huge this time next year. Asshole. I'll never catch you at this rate.

Pabelanger - Two final weeks of SGX and then a week's vacation from both weight training and strict diet. I need seven days to kick back and pig out. If I put on some fat, so be it. Cutting again starting july 19th. :tu:

Mike - I've got Chris' program to thank for the cuts in the shoulders and the massive improvement in my lower body, among other things. SGX is a great tool and I'm incredibly happy I went on the program instead of trying to do this all myself these past three months.

Naturegirl - Yeah, I notice a difference. Can I tell you how much I'm looking forward to finally bulking? To look at these pics and think I've still got 10-12 lbs of fat to cut before hitting my target freaks me out. I'm gonna look damn-near skeletal.

Darol - Like I told Philly, ten weeks ago it seemed like forever. Now it seems like it was the blink of an eye. Getting fitter in that time rocks the house. :tu:

Gaz - Me and you both man! Thanks for the props. :D

Kaylov - Fortunately I've gotten to the point where I'm happy with my physique. I have no qualms about taking my shirt off in public and my clothes fit me like they're supposed to. I was going to maintain 'til October and start my bulk then so it's no significant change to keep cutting. When they arrive, they arrive. The key is that I'm not a sloppy fatass anymore!

Bigpapi & Coachese - I was gonna say the same thing. The supps make a difference but it's minimal compared to the program itself. If I had it to do over again (and I will eventually) I'll probably just keep supps at whey and a multivitamin. Oh, plus the drugs that keep me from going insane.

Thanks everybody. :D :D :D

I was in a crappy mood before I took this week's (final) pictures because I thought I backslid for the past two weeks. I'm not at 8%. I don't have visible abs. Blah blah blah blah blah.

I should really make a comparison shot of one of the flexed photos from last week or the week before. It's tough to see without them side-by side...fuckit...hang on.

Look at the size difference in these photos (http://www.foolserrand.com/JSF/Wk10_Wk12_Compare.jpg)! These are TWO WEEKS apart!

Makes me want to bulk even more.

Long and short of it: I felt fat. I took photos. I looked bigger than ever. My measurements showed I was leaner than before. Measurements also showed seriously powerful Lean Mass gains.

SwoleCat -- Had none of this happened, I would've been thrilled with your program. Once again I find myself flipped out in amazement over the system. Thank you for an incredible program, an incredible education, and results that speak for themselves. :tu:

I believe that although you did not reach 8% body fat you certainly have improved 100%. Think about it. You have also gained a lot of knowledge while on this cut and when you bulk you should see some huge muscle gains from the extra calories you'll be consuming. Keep up the good work.

Wow, like others have said great back and quads progress. Overall great progress too! Just another transformation that makes me think I should start SGX soon... just don't know that I'd discipline myself enough, and I'm already losing fat and gaining lean mass at a decent pace.

I also took some detail shots. These are primarily here to serve as "Before" pics for later endeavors, but if you wanna see:

Did you take any from different angles?
You will probably finding yourself wishing you had a couple of profile shots, a tricep shot, and a better angle at your calves (on tiptoe but straight legs). When I'm checking my progress now, there's all sorts of poses I wish I'd taken earlier.

Your legs are looking great, and your back is amazing as always. That IS a nipple ring! I didn't know Playboy made underwear. :madpimp:

guava - Thanks for the tips on the poses. I was wondering about that when I was taking them and will take the ones you've recommended tonight. The playboy underwear was a gift from Clare when I was fat. I'd never fit into them before and kind of pulled them out of the bottom of my underwear drawer in the search for something that would show my quads. :o

J2K66 - SGX will be there when you're ready for it and will be plenty effective. Thanks for the props. :tu:

bg - slacker

George - Thanks man! :D Yup, that's a nipple ring. One of the guys in the locker room asked me if it hurt when I got it and I gave him the honest answer: No idea, I was too drunk.

SK - The education I got from SGX will benefit me for the rest of my life. I think my body really, really wants a bulk. The rest of the guys in my family are all brawny wrestler-types. I thought I was some sort of genetic anomaly since I'm taller and lankier than they are...but now I'm thinking I just never put the effort into getting big. Can't wait! :D

Oh, and there's no way on earth I'm ever eating dog food. :tu:

Coachese - Thanks a million bud. :D Now it's time to devote that hard work towards getting my endurance back. I keep running into more and more triatheletes around here, mostly women, and they're hot!

Carole - Oh yeah! I remember back when I used to help people and whatnot. Ah...I was so young and naive then. Thank you for the compliments and rest assured: I will continue to post a whole lot.

posted June 1st-I'm mildly regretting my decision to wear the loose shorts for the comparison pictures 'cause it obscures so much of them. Then I look at the underwear pictures and am very glad about that choice.

M@, I certainly know how much work and effort went in to your weeks on SGX. Your results are great. Especially back and legs. Plus your face is looking so much leaner now.

I know exactly what you mean about your body screaming at you to bulk. That's how I felt when I ended SGX. I've put it off for a little while but am really looking forward to giving it what it wants very soon now. I had to go out an buy a pair of 31" pants for a conference I just attended. But I'm not going to buy a lot at this size because of my pending bulkitude. Way to go, man.:tu:

Kilter - Thanks! I'm pleased with the way the legs are looking. It's amazing how running develops them. I used to go to Palm Beach Tan but haven't been in several weeks. I think the color I've got is from the sun alone. You're looking at my running outfit, minus shoes and a heartrate monitor.

George - Hah! I just threw the poses together on the fly 'cause of Silver's goofy poses in his journal. They really showed some different definition and I wanted to see what I could come up with. There's probably about 20 pictures that I'll never post from that exercise but now I've got good reference on most of my vanity muscles. Dawgfood bet's off. :(

Me in my warmup shirt in the stands at Heinz Field before race start. I'm really glad I got that thing 'cause it was the first cool morning I'd been out in all summer and the start was considerably delayed.

The starting line. This narrowed considerably just past the line and the surge out was slow. I'm somewhere near the back of that mass.

And don't even joke about getting so discouraged that you stop all together . Look at how much you've accomplished in such a short term. Yes you should of been sleeping. :nono: When eating a surplus of calories and pushing heavy weight your body need to recover before the next assault. Sleep is very important, so are cold long showers, and deep body rubs (all part of active recovery). Recovery is as important to growth as eating and training is.

I'm not an expert at these things, but you still show tons of improvements over your starting shots. If you've made strength gains without making lots of visible changes, that's just priming you for being able to add more size. More strength means more weight at higher volumes :tu:

I wish my legs would grow more. Yours look pretty good and will be even better I'm sure with mastover's plan.

1. I'm cool with the Wahlberg and Vaughn hybrid look comparison.

Phitty & wh0 - This was about the last thing I expected to find in a reply to this thread. I've never been compared to Wahlberg or Vaughn before (at least in appearance), but it's pretty cool.

Joe Fiennes and I have the same facial structure, nose, and hairline. It was kind of cool to have the comparisons back when people actually knew who the hell he was.

http://www.foolserrand.com/JSF/mattnJoeFiennes.jpg

Doordude - Yup, fat like you is definetly what I'm shooting for. I'm freaking paranoid about going up a belt size.

#91 - Thanks bud! :D I was actually surprised to see the improvement. I guess I should've listened to guava when she said that I was making progress even if I didn't think I was. :o

Mike - Ugh! I need practice! This big eating thing is wearing me out already. I need my friggin' stomach to stretch. Definetly feelin' the postive effects, though. :tu:

Andy - I always thought my legs were pathetic but never paid that much attention to them. Now that I'm squatting a refrigerator for reps I'm very interested to see what happens to them. The strength gains from the Waterbury programs are doing great things for me. This past week has been the first time I've ever had calf DOMS from squats!

I don't think you look like Wahlberg, Vaughn, OR Fiennes. I cast my vote for Zen Gesner back in June (http://forums.johnstonefitness.com/showpost.php?p=339108&postcount=736).

Clearly, you have the face of a movie star.

Looks like I can see some progress, but it's hard to tell when the photos aren't side by side.

Silver & guava - Yup, the posture issue is still there but it's improving. The key seems to have been making a concerted effort to keep both feet on the floor when I'm sitting at a desk. I've also shut the rocker feature off on my chair. I'm pleased with the results so far.

guava - Thanks. :o

Andy - I can see Pierce Brosnan. Maybe not 100% but you've got a strong, square jaw and hawkish features. You've definetly got the whole "James Bond" tough + stylish thing going.* (http://www.foolserrand.com/funneh/smiley/smiley_gayfight.gif)

Phillydude - :madpimp:

Butterflyer - I'm positive the posture shift is due to slouching in my chair with one hand on the mouse. My doctor checked me out and said that there's just some overdevelopment of the erectors on the right side of my body and that sitting up straight should fix it just fine.

If I'm still slouching in January, I'll consider a chiropractor.
