Hey Im new here ( first post ) and a Dr friend of mine showed me this site, im turning into a total fatass and other than that not being acceptable i have seen my anxiety get worse as i gain and im hypoglycemic ( hope i spelled that right ) anyway, so i saw the site and i have tried diet after diet but what i liked about this site was that it talked more about the whole mental change you must under take, so to put all this in short im 21 about 6foot and about 250 if i dont lose weight i imagine i will be diabetic by the time im 27, any hints good plans daily hints etc... i would like to hear them. If i dont make a change now a Dr. will make me change right after i go blind and i take shots everyday and i would rather be dead.

In short, i dont really have anyone, so help me.

Welcome - congrats on deciding to change your life. Your'e 100% right that the mental change is the toughest to do! Look around the sight, look at John's menu, and read a lot of the posts about workouts and diets and put together a program that will work for you. I encourage you to take a picture right now of yourself so you can always have something to reference back to. I didn't take a pic until 6 weeks into my program, and I really regret it!
Good luck to you! :tucool:

Oh, man, there is hope! The strategies discussed in this site and in these forums work! It takes hard work, but it is soooooo worth it!
Commit yourself to these strategies - it sounds like you in particular have every reason to make a lifestyle change.
I'd start by browsing the photo gallery. There's a community of people making real changes here.
The frustrations that come, as well as the successes, are discussed here daily.
BTW, you mention diet, but what are your plans for exercise? Of course, get your doctor's direction on getting into a routine.
Sounds cheesy, but consider changing your alias from "Funeral" to "New Life". Attitude does matter.

I think the most important thing out of everything I've picked up from here is not to give up, no matter how many times you 'fall off the wagon'. This is not a forum full of ripped, muscular people (yet) and we're all here for the same reason and want to help each other.

I said to someone else earlier, that you can't do it all in one go. There's a lot to learn and you may decide to do things a little differently from John, or from anybody else here. You don't have to rush to do it all in one year - think of it as a plan for life which will keep you happy in yourself. I'd break it down into:

1. Prevent. Sort your diet out. Think about your food and liquid intake and what it's doing to you. Do a lot of lurking and ask questions in the food and nutrition forum. Get to enjoy simple, tasty, natural foods.

2. Fix. Start to get rid of the fat by doing cardio exercise to burn it off. If you feel uncomfortable doing it, take it fairly slowly and build up to it. When I started I felt like my heart was going to explode, but it gets better and more bearable :d_smile: . If you've got the 'Prevent' bit right, you won't be wasting your time replacing the burned fat with new fat. It'll take you some time to reduce from 250 to whatever your first goal is, but just look at the photo gallery to see what people have already done. It's fantastic, and you can do it too.

3. Improve. Use weights to put muscles wherever you feel you want them. Usually they look best all over :d_smile: . It may be some way off before you before you can get that muscular look, but put this at the end of your list and start doing it whenever you feel comfortable.

I wish I'd taken a picture before I'd started, but I recommend doing it. You don't have to post it if you don't want to, but whenever you feel like you're not getting anywhere, take a look at it and compare to where you are at that point. That should keep you progressing.

I won't try to pretend that you'll find it easy, but keep coming here for support. It works. and a chat. We'll try to turn 'Funeral' into 'Fun' :p

PS. Sorry about that awful pun :o

Welcome, Funeral. Getting started on your own program when you're first motivated (now) while sifting through the knowledge on this website is definitely a tall order. I think I may be able to offer some advice on this.

You mentioned the mental preparation issue. A perfect diet probably sounds pretty daunting, and it certainly takes preplanning and knowledge. I usually recommend to people to incorporate something new into your lifestyle every two weeks. That's usually how much time it takes to mentally adapt to a new routine.

That being said, I really recommend you focus on nutrition before exercise, as nutrition is going to be the big result bringer, now and always. See what people have been doing with spreadsheets throughout this site and the diets they are modelling for themselves with the spreadsheets. You will hear about a 40/40/20 diet. Perhaps, if you decide to go down this road, straightening out one of your macronutrient groups every two weeks would be a good idea, and then after that, working on the overall calories?

This slow introduction while educating would be invaluable to a long term commitment for a lot of people. If you're one of them, hopefully you'll consider the advice.

The additional advice I can offer, or emphasise, is just to start. It's a lot of info to absorb, but it doesn't have to be perfect, nor could it be. Just with eliminating the crap that everyone pretty much knows is killer: soda, sweets, fast food, fried, etc. Saying "no" to that stuff is the first big step. Once you've committed to eating natural, healthy foods, you can worry about GI and 40/40/20 and all that other stuff.

I still think Marcus' nutrition thread is the place to start...

Hey there!

I guess you're currently where I am on Monday! I've read loads over the last few days and am struggling to take it all in to be honest, but I feel I've made pretty good start over the last few days, good intentions are certainly there, and there perfecting of diet and excercise will come the more I read on here, and adapt to my own needs.

You're also similar to me in that you're about my age (I'm 20), about my height (I', 6 foot 1) and about my weight (I'm 256 lbs). It'd b pretty interesting to have someone to chat to about stuff as I'm learning it, and to share tips or whatever with. I see that you use Yahoo messenger... I don't suppose you also use MSN and fancy chatting?
