Jeeze, 71% of men are overweight? I love it. Makes me more attractive by not even doing anything :)

My fave quote is "I would say it has leveled off. The bad news is we haven't found a way to lose weight," said Harry Balzer, vice president of NPD, which each year tracks what thousands of people eat and their self-reported height and weight. I think that he actually means he hasn't found a way to encourage the population to lose weight as opposed to a way to lose weight elludes him or his group.

Maybe the women are lying on the surveys :)

Nevermind, it appears as though the weights are actually taken. Ignore me.

From what it looks like, all they take is height and weight and get an "overweight" or "not overweight" checkmark.

They are using BMI, and if we were to use that, John Stone would be classified as "moderately overweight". How do feel now fatty? :neener:

People are piling on weight and it's FAT!

I just finished reading a survey that said less than 12 percent of the North American population are engaged in vigorous longterm activity programs and less than 50 percent are engaged in any kind of activity at all.

Even a woman in top shape will have more bodyfat per ratio than a similar male in top shape.

Women are basically built fatter than men.

That's not a "diss". What do you think makes all those shapely curves:D

There are some "roided' female weightlifters out there who's BF is amazingly low.

But "on average" a woman has a tad more insulation than a man.

I would question the second one--I think it's high or else the definition of "any kind of activity" is VERY lenient. For instance, if a person plays ping pong for 20 min 4 times/week, I guess that could be some activity, though really it's not worth mentioning. I know a LOT of people who do nothing whatsoever for activity although I guess I can think of a few who do some mild to moderate activity on a long term basis to come up with the 12% mark so that one seems reasonable.

I know, I'm just saying....

I realize people are getting fatter of course, thats not really the issue. I was merely pointing out that I would be more interested in an average BF% as opposed to a simple "overweight" vs "not overweight" system of evaluation.

I'd love to know what these BMI numbers equate to for BF%, even if it was a ballpark :)
