As it so turns out, almost everyone in the office here is playing the new Onslaught mode of Unreal Tournament 2004. We've also installed a new program called Xfire, which is basically a game independant buddy list that lets you see where your friends are playing, and you can join a game in short order.

If we have any gamers in the community, join in! http://www.xfire.com . Search for the user 'sludge'.

I'm not affiliated with the xfire developers or UT2k4 in any professional manner, other than having talked to the developers of both on a few occasions.

This game kicks serious ass! Been playing all week... I'll have to get that xfire one of these days, a lot of people seem to be using it.

I bought a copy of ut2003 last year and played it 3 times I think, I much prefer games like battlefield1942!

I just can't get into UT at all, I even bought ut2004 at the weekend to try it out and although it's great fun, I still much prefer the reality of games like battlefield!

Are any of you interested in WoW? I have never played Unreal, my boyfriend does but I spend most of my time playing Baulder's Gate, and Champions of Norath. I am also interested in Fable so I look forward to it's release in june. Anyow, I was thinking of playing my first online game and I chose WoW becase the storyline and graphics are amazing. I dont think I could ever keep up with Unreal! Hats off to you! ;)

Blizzard makes THE best games! I'm not really into MMORPGs, but I guarantee you WoW is going to be incredible.

Warcraft III and the expansion had me literally addicted for about 1.5 years. Broke the addiction 2 weeks ago when I realized that it was ruining my life, so I'm on the patch (a.k.a. UT2k4) ... haha

I played EQ and play UO currently. I will probably try WoW purely n blizzards track record, but it does seem like it's going to be more for the casual gamer, which i am not in mmorpg's. I tried SWG but didn't take to it becuase basicly within 2 months i had a maxed char, had done nearly everything and had all the wealth i could wish for.

The reason I stay away from SWG, EQ and UO is because I don't like to game for 7+ hours. I want the freedom to turn it off when I am tired of playing and with EQ a player can be waiting for 2 hours for the rest of their guild to log on so they can fight! That seems silly and boring to me. That being said, I should probably admit to the fact that I spent the entire weekend eating hot wings and playing video games. :D

hehe yes that side can be frustrating, but then you get the bonus of really being a close knit group, each relying on the other to keep them alive and have fun, so to outsiders you're some n friend sado who sits in his pc all night, but to yourself you're out socialising with a bunch of really good friends involved in some great spirit building games relying on each other :) The achevements in EQ seem to mean more due to the time and comitment they take, af cause it's all meaningless tho to the people in the office you try explain it to :p

Until I started dating my boyfriend I had NEVER played a video game. His "weird" online games were of no interest to me and I thought it was insane that he could spend so much time playing videogames. He tried to get me interested and I would rebel. Finally, after a year of pressure to try a game I brokedown. In my mind, I was doing it to please him and hopefully get him off my back for awhile. (sorry honey if you are reading this) That is...until I got completely hooked myself. When you are playing a game you totally lose sight of how much time has gone by. I would have never known that if I didn't experience it myself. Though I don't know what it is like to communicate with a guild, I imagine it is similar to this John Stone forum. You have a bunch of people coming together to talk about a common subject. I have seen the EQ forums so I know it runs about the same. The reason why I have been playing Champions of Norath (and similar) is because it is a two player game so my BF and I can play together. It is a blast! When we finish the games we just sit around and bullshit about our likes and dislikes or talk about all the cool weapons and spells the game had to offer. Am I sounding lame yet?
