embarrassed Sat, April 1st, 2006, 12:04 PM hi guys im 15 goin on 16 in april, i had the g disease and already had the surgery to get rid of the fat in my chest, im not fat, im 6'3 175 pounds, i dont smoke weed or take steroids and yet i still have puffy nipples, i dont have the fat in my chest anymore but i still have the puffy nipples. I had the surgery done near around thanksgiving time. Now is this something that will go away with time or do i need another surgery? I mean there not huge but they are noticiable if I take my shirt off. I don't think im done with puberty yet either as im starting to get chest hair and more facial hair now. So, any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Omaha Sat, April 1st, 2006, 03:39 PM You have a very good chance of simply 'growing out of it'. Either way talk to you doctor about it, he would know better than anyone here.

Sorry em, I don't know what the g disease is. What surgery was performed? Why was it performed?
If you reduce your bodyfat percentage enough then your puffy nipples will disappear. If you've got hair around your nipples you may want to shave that off (be super-careful, use a foil shaver if you can) and see what you think then. Hair around the areola will make your nipples look much larger.

i believe he's referring to gynocomastia.

Okay. Em, if that's what you're talking about, did you have the glands reduced/removed (mammoplasty) or did the doctor just take fat tissue out of your chest (liposuction)? Did your doctor try any therapy (testosterone replacement therapy or Clomiphene) first?
I don't want to jump to conclusions or ask you too many additional questions about further problems but pubertal gynecomastia is resolved within three years for something like 85-90% of persons afflicted. I just find it really odd that your doctor would recommend surgery before you turned 18.
If you had mammoplasty then Omaha's assessment that you may grow out of it is right on. If your doctor didn't put you on any kind of therapy before surgery then ask him about that option as well.
If you had liposuction then what I mentioned about overall bodyfat reduction holds true. Its inverse is also a factor: If you go up in bodyfat the fat cells that remain in your chest are more than capable of growing to make up for the loss of cells from the surgery.

Glaive Mon, April 3rd, 2006, 10:49 AM You don't know what surgery you had? Who's idea was this?
You're still very much in the midst of puberty. Breast swelling is a very common thing to experience and for the vast majority of men it goes away. Mine did.
M@ Mon, April 3rd, 2006, 01:00 PM If you're 10% bodyfat and they made incisions then you probably had the mammoplasty and they took some of the gland. The residual puffiness should go away within the next 12-18 months. If it does not, talk to your doctor about therapies before any further surgery. You may want to consider a different doctor as well.

jwdiho Mon, April 3rd, 2006, 02:42 PM I think you had the male equivalent of a mastectomy. He removed the breast tissue from under your nipple. This is usually done through the small incision you described.
No, if he removed the majority of the tissue it does not come back. Just as a female breast doesn't come back after a mastectomy.
Surgery is recommended just as in women if a mass is suspected. I believe he was being ultraconservative and basically took both sides. Look at your hospital bill. It may descride the procedure performed. If it's a CPT code, I can look it up.
Edit- Chest help. I thought you wanted benching advice. :)
