View Full Version : tempted to get body tested again...
Bo Jones Wed, March 24th, 2004, 05:31 PM At the start of my program I vowed to be the guy who stayed away from daily examinations and musings, and just put in the work and show up once a month to check my progress. However, that quickly became every two weeks I would go to the gym and get weighed and BF tested. Last time I did that was last Tuesday, at the official start of my program, and my results were great, and I felt great. But I started to get anxious real soon after that and ended up buying a scale Friday. I have weighed myself daily since then and have been fluttering from 230-227.5-229.5. I'm starting to get anxious again and I really want to go back to the gym to get my bodyfat checked again, even though I said I'd wait till next Tuesday.
I guess this is more of a vent than anything. I've been real good on my diet, waking up at 5:45 to do cardio, and getting my lifting in. I'm just really anxious to get some more motivation before I burn out :) . Think I should get checked out again?
Jono Wed, March 24th, 2004, 05:37 PM i only weigh myself once a week, every friday morning, same exact conditions.
their is no advantage in weighing yourself daily, it can reep havic on your mentality.. "shoot, i didnt lose much weight, i should cut my calories a bit more, or do more exercise". it happens all to often, i use to be the same way. personally i go day by day by taking a look at the mirror because i see results almost daily.
i check my body fat once a month, weight on a scale once a week.
Bo Jones Wed, March 24th, 2004, 05:41 PM Well what troubles me is I stare at the mirror and can't find the results most days. There have been a few days where I looked and things seemed to be improving, and sometimes where I feel like my belly is a pinch smaller, but I don't know, I'm just being a little too forward. I certainly wasn't expecting instant big results, but maybe I wasn't entirely clear on what to expect otherwise?
Jono Wed, March 24th, 2004, 05:45 PM post up your diet and training regime, if you like and myself and others can help out as much as we can
perhaps there may be some things that can be changed in your diet to speed up process.
for me personally, it took two weeks to notice a significant change. my body adapting to the training and nutrition.. now i notice results every day almost
Bo Jones Wed, March 24th, 2004, 05:51 PM Well thats good to hear, as I'm only starting my second week now.
My training is AM cardio 5x a week, and then 4x a week I lift for about an hour, and I am prety confident in my execution of these. My BPM is 160 for the cardio. I train (lifting) each muscle group twice per week, I am not a big fan at all of the once a week mentality except for squats.
My diet is 40/40/20 with very little sugar, whole wheats, etc. It's a bit much to be posting, but it's generally chicken, green vegetables (asparagus, broccoli, baby spinach), wheat bread, protein shakes, and natpb/olive oil for fats.
I have continued to revise it as I go, I think it's pretty solid but totally open for suggestions or even blatant critism.

sounds pretty good.
how many calories, protien/carb/fat per day?
make your cardio 135-140 BMP for 45min
Bo Jones Wed, March 24th, 2004, 06:13 PM 1900 cals, so that works out to about 760 protein 760 carbs 360 fat (about 190/190/40 in grams). Little over on the protein usually.
I have read all the different arguments about staying in the "fat burning zone" during cardio, which seems to be your suggestions, in hopes of burning a larger % of fat. However, I just don't get any kind of a sweat going at 140ish BPM and I can't wrap my mind around the fact that it's doing any good. If I am burning a lesser % of fat but more calories overall at 160 then I can certainly live with that. But again, I'm glad to hear your reasoning if its anything beyond that.
stacykidd Wed, March 24th, 2004, 07:00 PM Bo,
I say get tested again, I started beginning of feb at 226 and 28%, today i'm 208 at 19%(it's not too exact I'm sure, I use a junk wal-mart scale) but one of my major motivating factors is that I chart my progress (weight & bodyfat) everyday in an excel spreadsheet and can see results, no matter how small they are. (If for nothing else, I want to get on that bike every morning and hit it hard just to see that line go down) I found that before I did this I would lose sight of my goals and not feel like I had made any progress. I just wanted to give you the other side of that coin, hope it helps. I'm out.
