Last week I had a mishap at the squat bar, where I banged my neck pretty good. Yesterday when I was doing shoulders I was fine until I go to my shrugs(last exercise) where I got this weird shooting pain up the back of my neck. Anyone have any idea what this might be? I did the shrugs anyway, and my neck doesnt hurt at anyother time, so I don't know what the issue could even be.

Sounds familiar to something I've experienced. Ever since I started lifting weights (16 years?) I'd get an occasional jolt up the back of my neck when doing shrugs or upright rows. Seems like any trapezius work triggers it. I don't always get it. Maybe 25% of the time?

It feels like an electrical shock that runs from my spine at the shoulders to the back of my head, lightning fast. It's disturbing when it happens but has never left me with any soreness or lingering effect. I just always assumed it was a pinched nerve.

I agree with M@, but if it keeps bothering you go see your doctor.
