I have crazy DOMS from yesterday's leg workout. My thighs, hams and rear end are aching like no tomorrow.:moon: I did my shoulder workout earlier in the day, but my question is, should I still do my cardio session tonight, or skip it? I usually NEVER skip cardio, even when I'm feeling a little under the weather. I was just wondering how cardio effects DOMS...does it make it worse? or perhaps it helps stretch the legs out, thus easing the pain? What do you think?

Cheers all... thanks!

I would do light cardio, it will increase blood flood, thus aiding recovery. Blast some cold water on your legs too, i have a removal shower head and i put it on cold water and spray down my legs, cool off suckers!

hahaa....good tip! I can barely sit down and get back up off the couch...jeez!!! That said, I wouldn't trade this feelign for even a minute of how I felt 50 pounds ago... again, barely able to get off of the couch... but back then it was either because I ate so much I didn't want to move, or else something was on the idiot box (TV).

Peace,
MIKE

oh, light cardio as in LISS for 45 minutes? or light cardio meaning the usual 16 min. I do at high intensity, but doing low intensity in its place??? Or, just give 'er and see where I end up?

Cheers man...

Give er! I worked out yesterday after hurting(legs) to get out the bed, i done hack squats and leg curls later that day and i actually felt better. I would try HIIT if your not up to it do some light cardio.

Pain is all mental! :D

well, just did cardio. 16 minutes HIIT. I don't feel much looser, but I am certainly not tighter neither! Actually, mentally I feel great because I was apprehensive about doing HIIT given my current state, but did it nonetheless. It's the little things that keep us coming back for more!

Peace,
MIKE

Yes do it. Cardio reduces DOMS. Just make sure you don't get dehydrated.

I drink water like a fish during cardio... frequent and small sips throughout. Just curious, what does the water do to help??? Does it have to do with helping the joints?

Thanks,
MIKE

The rehydration is important for a bunch of reasons. Water is so common in your body that your body uses it for lots of things. You need water for the chemical reactions that burn fat. If you are dehydrated, you slow them down, and what's the point of that? Plus you need to sweat to manage your temperature, and that takes water.

Even more noticable is that as you sweat, your blood thickens a little and your heart has to work harder. This is one reason why your heart rate increases during constant intensity effort. As far as the joints go, the tissues of concern there are avascular - they don't have capillaries - you have to get your circulation up in order to get nutrients in your blood to diffuse through them.

well, just did cardio.

The other thing to think about with managing DOMS is a cool down for your workout. A few minutes of something with a moderate heart rate just to wash the exercise by products around.

I usually walk around the house for around 5 minutes or so while sipping water as my cool down. I have a lot of stairs so I do them slowly....seems to be good. I've never had DOMS this bad... holy man I must have gone crazy on those squats!!!!

Oh well, I'll live!

cheers, and thanks for the explanation!
