Hi everyone.

Just thought I'd share a neat little trick I discovered serendipitously yesterday.

All this while, I've had to deal with protein "clumps" in my protein shake. Initially, I thought it was due to insufficient volume of liquid to dissolve the powder in (soy, in case you're wondering. love soy protein  ). So I tried adding more water/milk, but I still had the clumping problem, no matter how violently I shook the shaker.

Yesterday, after my workout, I realised I had forgotten to refrigerate my milk, and if there's one thing I can't stand, it would have to be a warm protein shake. So I added about a cup of crushed ice to the shaker and to my surprise, the ice in there actually helped to agitate the mixture and voila, no clumps! I tried it again this morning and sure enough, it seems to have solved the problem.

Anyway, sorry if this seems trivial. I'm pretty excited to have discovered it tho. :D

Cheers.

P.S. Now that I think about it, it's probably an old trick no? Wonder why I never thought of it earlier.

Which whey are you using that is causing the clumps?

I'm not using any whey. I'm actually a big fan of soy protein. :tu: Pro Performance Chocolate Soy Protein. 25g per dose.

Out of curiousity why in particular are you anti-whey? I know of no specific benefits that soy protein has over whey.

Glaive,

I'm not really anti-whey, as you put it. I simply much prefer the taste of soy protein to whey. :tu:

From my experience taste is far more determined by flavoring agent than anything else (hydrolyzed protein being the exception). What brands of whey protein have you tried?

Personally, I'd still take a protein that didn't taste as good over one that tasted better if it meant getting a higher quality product.

I've tried the GNC house brand Pro Performance Chocolate, Designer Whey Strawberry and another one from EAS. Name eludes me right now. Didn't like any of them anyway. They were all 2lb bottles which I only took like, maybe 3 or 4 servings from.

Once I tried soy, there was no turning back for me.

I'm not that much of a hardcore lifter so whether or not i'm consuming the top quality protein isn't so much an issue for me. Anyway, I've read reports comparing each type of protein (soy vs whey), and if I recall correctly, they found that taking them in combination proved to be more effective than taking each on its own.

In any case, there's no doubt that the soy does me good, and if it does me some good, it's all good. :tu:

Why don't you ask Chris Mason for a sample of Nitrean? I'm sure he'd be glad to send you one, and that's one of the best-tasting protein powders around. It would also be far superior to pure soy protein nutritionally. You didn't really sample any of the better whey proteins out their, so I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
