View Full Version : Guys, you need to hear this.
carguy Tue, March 7th, 2006, 05:29 PM This is not an easy subject to talk about, but it is very real. A freind of mine (male) who is only 47 was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Yes, it is very rare, but it is possible in men. Larry noticed a lump in his chest that was growing but did nothing for 3 months. When he finally went to the doctor and had all the tests done, it was malignant and already into his lymph nodes. He will be getting chemo first, then surgery, then radiation.
Hearing this about my friend made me concerned about the lump I was feeling in my chest (right behind the nipple). So today I had mine checked out but fortunately mine was nothing to be worried about.
But the point is that this can happen to men and we have to check for lumps just like women. If you feel something out of the ordinary, go to the doctor and have it checked out. Breast cancer is probably more fatal in men than women (percentage-wise) because men are afraid to talk about it or go to the doctor about it.
Please check yourself regularly and don't hesitate to seek medical attention if you are at all concerned. Early detection and treatment is the key.
1FastGTX Tue, March 7th, 2006, 05:36 PM Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Please keep us posted (if and as much as you feel you can) on his progress; I hope that everything will turn out okay for him!
Thanks for your post, appreciated!
bradh Tue, March 7th, 2006, 05:40 PM Wow, never knew that before. Thanks for the heads up.
NEdge Tue, March 7th, 2006, 05:45 PM Not a bad idea to check your balls either while you are at it.

Right, Cancer of the testicles is a disease that can strike the young man, too.
betastas Tue, March 7th, 2006, 11:12 PM I always check. I'm very well aware of my body. However, go in if you feel pain at all in your testicles. I had pain in mine, and went in to the doc. Sure it's a little "uncomfortable" to do the turn and cough, the examinations, etc. but it turns out that it was just the early stages of a hernia. Much better than it could have been, and a load off my mind. Now I have to watch my form so as not to aggravate the condition, but I have yet to have it develop worse as the abdominals are strong enough to support it.
I hope your friend can get through this. Be there and be a buddy, that's what people need the most.
chang Tue, March 7th, 2006, 11:17 PM I have lumps under my nipples, I'm 19 though. I'm 99.9% sure it's gyno related, although a very minor case. Do you think I should worry about this? Your post has made me think twice.

Given your age, I would tend to agree with your assessment. My son, who is 22 now, had the same thing at that age. But the next time you see your doctor, bring it up just to ease your mind. Or, if you ever notice leakage from the nipple, see a doctor right away.

Your post has made me think twice.I was going to post in this thread specifically to address that. We've had responses from many teens here with nipple lumps. I had a good ole lump under one of my nips (maybe both, not sure) for years and by late teens I think is when the lump finally went away. For that, it was nothing to worry about. I can't remember if it hurt--very little, if at all. I think when I was really cold maybe it hurt (like in freezing cold water) but nipple lumps are pretty common in male teens.

Good luck to your friend. Cancer is far and away the worst physical ailment we're suffering from in our society right now.
Shane Reid Wed, March 8th, 2006, 08:27 PM Yeah I had a lump under my nipple when I was about 12 to I'd say 16, Never thought anything of it though and it went away.
carguy Thu, March 9th, 2006, 08:33 AM Thanks for all the concern and thought for my friend. I'll let you know how things go for him.
I should have pointed out that if you are under 20 and feel a lump in your breast, don't panic. This is common at that age. But if you're over 25 and notice a change, please have it checked out.
