View Full Version : Help me with my Supplementation Plan!
Tyrius Mon, March 6th, 2006, 11:45 PM Its hard for a teenager to buy supplements these days. Lots of new products and not enough $$ to spread around! I have come down to my must haves (Whey/CEE/Multi). I'm also interested in dextrose so if anyone could point me into a good direction with that and a PWO Meal i'd be grateful (w/o PB) ! I'm just here for recommendations of each kind and the cost of each. I will have around 40-60 dollars to spend (incl. shipping). If there are any products that you think i could benefit from i'd very much appreciate your input. I'm trying to gain roughly 15 lbs of muscle by august and hopefully more.
Thanks again,
Tyrius
P.S - My thread of my progress so far and my diet plan (which i've been sticking to for the past 2 weeks)

1FastGTX Tue, March 7th, 2006, 03:33 AM At your age I don't think you need anything more than what you are already using.
With that said:
http://www.kentnutrition.com/dex-details.htm - dextrose from Kent Nutrition (a JSF sponsor)
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/now/dex.html - dextrose from bodybuilding.com
If you're going to use that, put it in a shaker bottle with your whey and water PWO. Drink immediately after the workout.
doordude42 Tue, March 7th, 2006, 06:44 AM I agree with GTX, that should do it for you.:tucool:

How much dex?
betastas Tue, March 7th, 2006, 10:06 PM Get dex at your local bulk store, bulk barn, costco perhaps, whatever it's called. I can get dex for 85 cents CAD / lb. It's the same stuff that these websites sell you, and it works.
airforcePTL Tue, March 7th, 2006, 10:15 PM Barry Farm (http://www.barryfarm.com/sugars.htm) is where i shop for dextrose. 1 cup = 265.1 grams of carbs (88%) at $0.95/lb
Glaive Tue, March 7th, 2006, 11:17 PM The only other thing I would add in that I consider essential is some sort of Essential Fatty Acid supplement, the most obvious choice (at least to me) being fish oil, either liquid or caps. I personally find the capsules to be quite convenient, and quality moleculary-distilled fish oil caps can be gotten easily online or at some stores for pretty cheap, although the ones online should be less expensive. I've seen others post of super low-priced ones at their local discount store but I have a strong suspicion that those are not molecularly-distilled, which means that the heavy metal content, most importantly mercury, will most likely be higher.
EFA's have a multide of positive health effects and aid in both fat loss and muscle gain, making them a great addition to any person's diet. I would suggest at least 3g spread throughout the day, but there's evidence that even more is beneficial. I take 2g of fish oil three times a day.
Oh, and All The Whey and Bulk Nutrition are the best sources I've found for cheap high-quality fish oil caps. A bottle of 100 caps at 1000mg each goes for under $10 at ATW.

Yes sorry

Hell Tyrius, you're gonna get a bunch of different opinions on this. I use maltodextrin and dextrose so I limit mt dex to about 15g. There are some guys who go as high as 40g or more. My pwo shake consists of:
32g whey protein
45g maltodextrin
15g dextrose

I agree, lots of opinions on this, many based on many different things, not the least of which is preference and experience.
For example, doordude42 uses more malto than dex, while I use a 50/50 ratio. We both are doing well, so we're both right maybe. :)
A lot of people use dextrose only, Tyrius, and that seems to be fine. John uses only dextrose and as you can see he is doing pretty darn well himself. :) One nice thing about a higer malto content might be that it "blands up" the taste somewhat - dextrose is VERY sweet!
There are some calculations out there that will help you with your PWO carb amounts based on weight, goals, and what-not. I don't have them handy but I'll look around, in the meantime just search through this forum, google, and other forums.
TarSeal Wed, March 8th, 2006, 07:12 PM Hey Ty, I use powdered gatorade for my pwo dex. I actually mix it in with my X-tend BCAA powder. Powdered Gatorade is made from dex and you can get it at the grocery store. :tucool:

HIJACK FOR A MINUTE!
Travis - you are you liking X-tend? I'm thinking of ditching my flavorless BCAA for a while and trying X-tend for a few months. Been reading way too many good reviews, and Kino suggested it to me as well (he has given me other good advice in the past).
Sorry for hijacking. :)

I love it Chris. I feel good drinking it while I lift and after. It seems to give me a little boost to get through all the heavy compound lifting I do. I like the flavor too. It was a little weird at first but now I love it. I even love the little white crunchies in it... :tu:

Thanks Travis, I appreciate the input. :)
I'm seriously considering at least doubling my BCAA intake for a while and doing some experimentation. This would make it MUCH easier to say the least!
Thanks again, end of hijack! If I have anything else I will PM ya. :tucool:
