View Full Version : March Morning Cardio Challenge
sox311 Wed, March 1st, 2006, 01:13 PM In order to get a little extra motivation to roll out of bed 45 minutes earlier in the morning and get on the elptical macine I have decided to create a new challenge for myself and anyone interested.
The challenge is: First thing in the morning do fasted LISS of at least 45 minutes for me(others do what they do, but set out a minimum). I have other goals for this month, but this is something others can join me in.
The scoring will be on a 31 point basis. Today is the first day, and I did my cardio on my eliptical today. So my score is : 1/1
If people want to join, start at 1/1 as well, even if you didn't do it today. Start bright and early tomorrow going for 2/2.
It doesn't matter if no others join, I will be doing this myself then in this thread.
31 days in march 31 days of fasted cardio.
Okay self control and motivation, time to show up on a consistant basis in this aspect.
doordude42 Wed, March 1st, 2006, 01:25 PM Hey bro, I have trouble committing to "reporting in" to challenges. I do however plan to perform fasted AM cardio EVERY day for the next 6 months. I WILL do this. Granted, there will be the occasional miss due to hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters but I will by no means miss a day on my own accord. Good luck to you my friend.:gl:
sox311 Wed, March 1st, 2006, 01:38 PM Thanks! Good luck to you as well. That is what I want to do, report in daily, to set a routine. It worked very well last year around this time, and I want it to have that effect on my cardio again. Posting everyday about it made it really feel like it was just part of my daily routine.
So, no more hitting that snooze button and skipping the cardio! I'm on the record now.
bradh Wed, March 1st, 2006, 01:41 PM I'm in eventhou i would of done an extra 5min today if i knew before hand. :D
Well since your edited your post sox this is my goal - at least 30min everyday. This will be a challenge for me because i never planned on doing fasted cardio on weekends but what the heck i'm always up to a challenge :)
1/1 (40min)

Good for you bro. I just started a "cutting" journal. I'm hoping it keeps me on track. Fortunately, i'm an obsessive/compulsive so my training gets done out of nessessity.     If I miss just ONE day, it's the end of the world to me. :bang:
sox311 Wed, March 1st, 2006, 02:38 PM Welcome Canada, lets see how we can do! And I edited my post to say 45 minutes for me, or how ever long for anyone else, just set a minimum.
I did also just see your 100 hour challenge. I guess I could have just hopped in there with you. But I want this to be for the month of March only. Then there will be an April thread next month.
I would also love to challenge people who post to not use emoticons. I loath emoticons. I know I am probably asking for it! I can see the next ten posts in here filled with crazy emoticons and what not. Oh well, it's all good.
I'm in eventhou i would of done an extra 5min today if i knew before hand.

treacherous Thu, March 2nd, 2006, 04:45 PM I'll join in on this one. I am 1/2 so far.
What's amazing to me is that I slept from 5:30PM yesterday to 5:30AM today (which is the time I normally go and do either 30-45 minutes LISS or 22-30 minutes HIIT, depending on what time I ACTUALLY wake up), but I decided to slack off and not go. :D

I just found out that Mcbutterpants is a creation of Dr. Lowery, no surpise there :D He mentioned it in one of his latest articles the sig/quote that i have.
Maggie McButterpants:
Maggie is 38 years old, depressed, frustrated, and fat. She just doesn't feel like herself anymore. Looking in the mirror at her butt she thinks: "Can that thing really be mine?" She's too young to feel this way. She's lethargic, cloudy-of-mind, and embarrassed of her appearance. It is true that she wasn't always heavy. That junk in her trunk was never enough to open a salvage sale before! So what happened?
Unbeknownst to her at the time, Mrs. McButterpants started down a primrose path at a younger age. When she was 26 she decided the "Freshman 15" she had added in college now had too much company.
She wasn't fat, per se but wanted to lose 10-15 vanity pounds. She decided to fast for a few days to "get the ball rolling," then switch to a fast-slim drink mix from the local grocer. You know where this is going. She lost 4 pounds in the first week — half way to her goal. Hurray! But alas, somehow, two months later she had gained back the total of eight pounds she lost, plus three more. How could this be? (Of course we know, just see paragraph four of this article).
A year later, a magazine with a grapefruit-based diet made its way to her desk at work. Mrs. McButterpants stopped eating anything but these bitter fruits for three weeks. It was tough but worth it. She dropped four pounds in the first 10 days. "Hmm; pretty good progress," she thought.
A supportive boyfriend agreed and complimented her. But you know where this is going. She kept up the diet, increasingly with "modifications," for another three weeks. Yet within two months she had gained five pounds and within three months she had gained a total of eight. Guess why. Talk about reaping bitter fruits.
Then a friend at work recommended a cortisol-related (or was it growth hormone-related?) slimming supplement. Her friend insisted that her niece melted fat while she slept. No effort necessary, according to this colleague, just a pill at bedtime. It was expensive but as the marketing persuades, "sometimes a pill is worth that second mortgage" (or something like that).
After all, she was indeed now fat beyond a few vanity pounds. She lost a pound and a half in three weeks, perhaps from water losses due to eating fewer carbs, perhaps from more attention to her diet, and admittedly perhaps even in part due to the pill.
Disappointed and emotionally distraught, Mrs. McButterpants gave up... until the next diet came along.
End of hijack

Treachorous.. don't give up... it doesn't matter how often you've done it so far, you can add another day today or tomorrow... Look at it as "I wonder how many days I will feel like making myself go to do cardio. WIll I decide today..or tomorrow?"
All that posting does here is to help you keep track and not feel so lonely in the effort to do your cardio...
Ignore the people who are being braggarts here.... you guys know whom I mean:D , they just have nothing better to with their time than gloat... because they have nothing better to do with their time...hence a lot of cardio...
But all of us here support you, gloaters and non-gloaters alike and we want to cheer you on to take it on, one day at a time at doing your cardio... :tu: :tu: :tu:

Umm, no, I and most of the normal working world call it the weekend. And I enjoy being able to sleep in and not have to log on to a computer at work and sign on the internet first thing in the morning on. You know, what is that thing called, oh yes life. You can be dedicated and accomplish daily goals as well as get a little extra sleep. And dedication towards fitness goals is a good thing, but it isn' what makes someone a man.

treacherous Sat, March 11th, 2006, 09:42 PM I don't care about the gloaters. I gloat to a buddy of mine at work when I work out and he doesn't (umm...he doesn't EVER)...so whatever.
I only care about the fact that there aren't enough hours in the day to get in all the stuff I need to do in a day (including weights in the evenings 3x a week, which I NEVER MISS), and still get up at 5AM to go do cardio, since I go to work at 7AM.
And soon, it will be even harder because I'm planning on going to grad school in the fall. But I refuse to give up. I am 3/11 now, but tomorrow I will be 4/12!

No Adam (it is Adam, right?) That was taken last summer. It wasn't my leanest but it serves as a reminder of what I can do if I put my mind to it. Just a little motivation. Justitia Sun, March 19th, 2006, 11:17 PM So I am back... or rather I am in Houston. Friday I could not stand it, not having workout in 4 days, so I did AM fasted Cardio despite the fact that I did not have the time. It cost me as I got to the Motor Vehicle Bureau later to renew my driver's license and waited 2 1/2 hours...jeez... I never waited so long in my life...
Saturday was a travel day... I left at 5:30 Am and when I got to Houston it was noon. I was exhausted and despite a couple of hour nap... I had not energy to do anything..except to go back to bed. I realized by this morning I picked up an airplane flu... I hate that. But I popped some DayQuil and went over to my gym here and did Am fasted cardio to day.
So that makes me 9/19.
(God, I can't believe it's my birthday next Sunday....:p )

Bigpapi Mon, March 20th, 2006, 12:27 PM Don't be dissapointed. Just get your ass moving! J/K :)
Seriously though, do what your body tells you. Lately, my body has been pissed at me and I think between my new workout plan with lots of compounds and cardio every morning I have slowly begun to wear down. I'd like to do cardio every day, but I would rather have GREAT lifting sessions and do cardio on my off days to make that work. Saturday I had an unbelievable workout and that was thanks to the extra fuel from no morning cardio. So do what works for you.
If you are sick then take that into consideration. Obvioulsy if you only feel a little sick, but still strong enough to do cardio then fight through it, but in the end making sure you are healthy enough to continue on is what counts the most.
Now I'm sure DD will come flying in here with a post going something like this: :guitar: :jumping: :flex: :bb: :spaz:

I walk.
Justitia Wed, March 22nd, 2006, 05:27 PM 12/22
I generally oscillate between the elliptical and the tread mill. I go on the elliptical when it is available since there are fewer of them. If not, then I go on the tread mill. I walk at about 4 mph on the treadmill with the incline raised a fair bit (4.5 === whatever that means.)
I have been having a hard time getting my HR above 120. I have to really focus to walk or pedal fast to do it. Usually I try to target for around 135. But I think my aerobic conditioning is just improving over time.
I can't run because of back (and now knee) problems.. so I will have to figure out how to improve the HR. I hate concentrating on doing cardio... it bores me silly... I watch the TV monitors which is the only way it is bearable for me. If I have to focus to make myself pedal faster than 52 or so RPM's or to walk more vigorously on the tread mill... I will burn out mentally very fast.

I also did an ab exercise before. I have decided to do abs before cardio on days that I don't do weights. But no more than 3 x a week (3 different exercises -- 1 each time.)
So I have now done cardio 6 days in a row. It must have been months since the last time I did it that continuously. Plus I did weights yesterday.. my second weight workout of the week. SO I have exceed my minimum of 4 cardios and 2 weights per week.
I am staying with an Orthodox Jewish friend..so everything shuts down at sundown tonight until sundown tomorrow which is after the gym closes. It will depend if I am up to hiking to the gym tomorrow whether I do cardio and/or weights....
