I don't really know what to call them: the first x lines of a post that pop up when you mouse-over a thread topic in the forum view. I'd like an option to turn them off as I find them to be very distracting.

but yay on the new design, very clean and modern. nice logo. the white on navy isn't any harder to read for me, just different. I don't know if the basic editor was there before but I'm glad to have it now because all those dancing smiley things brought my browser (Safari) to a crawl, even on the eleventy-gogglehertz G4 and Winbox at work, and made the site nearly unusable on my wheezy iBook G3.

finally kudos to John for all the effort and time put into this thing. it sure has taken off!

I like being able to preview the opening lines of a thread. If it looks interesting, I check it out. I was excited when I first came here and saw that feature.

Yeah, I like 'em too. The titles of threads are often not sufficiently descriptive. Nice to be able to mouse over the title and see what the thread is really about before clicking into it.

right, which is why I'd like the option to turn them off, so those who do like em can keep seeing them. frankly they drive me nuts.

Jenny and I were just testifying about the convenience and unmitigated joy that the mouse-over thread preview feature brings to our otherwise dull and lifeless internet experience. :D We were not implying that you should not have the freedom to refrain from that same experience.

There's no built in way to give the option to turn the tool-tip preview off on a per-user basis, so it would have to be in the form of a hack. I'll look into it, but no promises (so much else to do!) Personally I love that feature! :tu:
