View Full Version : Happy two month anniversary!
John Stone March 21st, 2004, 03:18 PM As you have (hopefully) noticed, I have given the forum a MAJOR graphical overhaul. I hope you like it, but if for any reason you prefer the old style, don't worry! You can easily switch back anytime you like: at the bottom of every page is a "Style Chooser" drop down list and which will allow you to change the style back to the old look.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or browser problems using the new style, please let me know.
Thanks for being a part of the forums - enjoy!
HobbesAB March 21st, 2004, 03:23 PM I like the new look, but PLEASE bring down the bright yellow a few notches. Its too bright and it makes the white text unreadable (at least to me).

Yeah, I just noticed that. Still a few kinks to deal with! ;)
karatetricker March 21st, 2004, 03:33 PM I actually like it a lot more than the one you had the last few days. That one was driving me nuts!
Sheepish March 21st, 2004, 03:41 PM Wow, that looks great! :tucool: However ( :p ), the contrast between message text and its background is way too strong. Could be because I'm viewing on a TFT though.
HobbesAB March 21st, 2004, 03:54 PM I'm viewing the site from my laptop and it looks good to me. I would prefer a slightly larger font size similar to the old layout but its no big deal.
-----edit------
Actually, I must be getting used to it because after I typed this message, it looks fine now
ibrewale March 21st, 2004, 03:56 PM Great Job on the update!
I'm viewing on my laptop and I'm getting good contrast between the letters and background. This is a definate improvement!

dimbulb March 21st, 2004, 04:00 PM very nice... the new graphics are looking great!!
I've always been a fan of light letters on a dark background, much easier to read due to the contrast...
Sheepish March 21st, 2004, 04:13 PM Wow, talk about out voted! ;) Hehe. I think I better tweak my monitor a bit...
HobbesAB March 21st, 2004, 04:21 PM Excellent! Its much better now. :tu:
Thanks for changing it.
FourMat March 21st, 2004, 09:15 PM Hey John, Thanks for putting the Style Chooser in there. While I like the overall look of the new design, I was having a hard time reading the various threads with the white on blue background and the size of the font. My eyes were starting to cross after looking at many of the threads. Props to you on that mod!
John Stone March 21st, 2004, 11:53 PM I've made a bunch of changes to both styles - check them out and let me know what you think! :)
SLUDGE March 22nd, 2004, 12:02 AM Congrats on the two month anniversary. These boards have an excellent signal to noise ratio. Some of the best anywhere, on any topic.
A word of warning: Allowing people to select colours in their posts and then allowing different background colours and contrasts will render some posts unreadable by some people.
Jingo March 22nd, 2004, 06:47 AM It's ok, i like it :)
You can keep it :p

Wow, good point. We can put secret messages in our posts now for old school viewers! :p Or secrets for default style users.
MYBAD? March 22nd, 2004, 07:02 AM Wow. It's a definite improvement in terms of looks. I'm currently in "OLD SCHOOL" which is a little bit easier on my eyes if I'm spending a while in here. I also used to click on the johnstonefitness.com logo at the top to link myself back "home" quickly which doesnt seem possible any more. Overall, it looks very professional.

Thanks man. Good point about the colors. I'll figure something out. :)
Sheepish March 22nd, 2004, 12:42 PM Hey, that's absolutely perfect for me now! :) Most passing cool...

After looking into this issue, the only way to deal with it while leaving user-selectable templates intact (which I think is important) is for me to edit the templates and remove the ability for users to easily change the text color from the default color. This is a minor inconvenience, but I'm sure one we can all live with so each of us can continue to enjoy the style of our choice without having to worry about colored-text readability issues.
jamester March 26th, 2004, 01:02 PM John - I love both new styles. GREAT WORK on the forums!! I really appreciate the time you've invested here.
