If anyone can find a solution to my tech problem I'll be SOOO happy and thankfull!

I'm trying to hook up an American xbox to an Italian television. Disregard NTSC/PAL because I have it worked out. My problem is this: my xbox sends a signal at 60 hz and my tv only accepts 50 hz. My tv only has a component hook up. I was thinking of this solution: use a VGA cable from my xbox, hook it up to a VGA to Component cable, and then hook it up to the tv. My thinking is that since the VGA cable (signal) is universal, that then the VGA to component would transfer the signal allowing me to see a picture. Those of you that know about this stuff...would it work? Or is there some product out there that would allow me to do this with the HD signal.

He (or she) that helps is a savior...I don't really know what to do in this case.

I am no video expert, but since PAL is 50hz and you don't say how you are dealing with the NTSC to PAL conversion. My thought is if you convert NTSC to PAL you'll be all set.

Good Luck!!

My tv accepts NTSC...if I don't use it on HD then I see in color....but since I bought this tv because it was HD I want to be able to see it in HD. My tv wont accept 60 hz, that's the problem. I'm hoping to bypass this problem, clean the signal in some way.

My thinking is that since the VGA cable (signal) is universal

Don't believe it is..... the VGA will likely still be sending out a 60hz signal to sync to NTSC TV's as well. Without an NTSC to PAL50 convertor I'm not sure how else you could do it.

Does anyone know if a product like this exists...something that'll take my 60 hz signal and convert it to a 50 hz component signal? By component I mean the 3 video cables...Red Blue Green.

There's little ones for composite....not sure about the progressive signal output.

http://www.3wav.com/converters.htm

I would imagine the progressive convertors would be expensive.

Trill - I am assuming since you mention HD this is an Xbox 360?

If you get me the exact model number of the tv you're using I have some "contacts" I can ask about your question who - I assure you - if any human beings on the planet know the answer they will.

I'm not into the whole HD fad with my 360 (I dont own a HD tv) so I am a novice myself.

Sorry it took so long to reply...

I'm trying to use an American Xbox (sending out a 60hz signal) to an Italian tv, that only accepts a 50 hz signal.

The thing is I can easily find a converter for a normal video signal, but I'm trying to convert an HD signal using the component video cables.

If you can help, that would be amazing!

try posting your question over at www.avsforum.com

Make sure you list the make and model of your TV

I assume that the power over there is 220v 50hz, correct? If thats the case how are you powering your xbox. Is there a switch on it like a computer that lets you switch from 110/60 to 220/50? or are you using an external power converter? It seems to me that composite/component signals should be the same everywhere, and the only thing that defines whether its 60 or 50 hz is the freq of the input power. Anyway just a thought.

I currently have a massive power converter that steps down the power to 110. 60hz and 50hz, the ones I'm talking about, are frames per second. In the USA it's 60 frames per second, in the PAL nations it's 50. I'm still looking for a solution if it's out there!
