View Full Version : Trying to reach 10% bf, lost 30 lbs already! Please check progress!
karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 12:49 AM Hello my name is karl. I still have not reached my goal of seeing my six pack, I think this may be because I am told I look "unhealthy" (my gf says "anorexic" but she is kinda on the chubby side) Most of my friends are used to seeing me at 210, I am now down to 180) Just last week, I did a body fat test at the gym and it came out to 14%, and the guy was like "no way, you have to be lower." It feels like I am destined to be "skinny fat" now!
I recently came across this site and noticed some pics of john stone. I compared myself side by side to match his 14% level with mine. Does it look realistic that I could reach 10% in the time he did in this picture. From 14% to 10% only took him 2 months!
Should I stop listening to what others say, and continue cutting calories, eating healthy.. or am I becoming a damn anorexic? :) Maybe my self body image is off??
Will any further cutting just burn muscle and make me look sickly?
Here are some pics, please tell how you would best go about getting a six pack from here, now I am afraid to get any skinnier! but john stone did it! (Maybe these people are just used to the old "fat" me?)

rstar32 Fri, February 10th, 2006, 01:27 AM Congrats on your progress. I would keep cutting, you are probably closer to 16 or 17%. Just stay with it. I wouldn't cut all the way down to 10% though. If I were you, I'd cut down another 10 pounds of fat and do a clean bulk because you don't have much muscle on you at this point.
karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 01:30 AM another 10 lbs of fat? Do you know what bf % that would bring me down to, probably 12?
yes, I would not like to lose any more muscle as I have none already. :)

10 pounds of fat loss from the 180 pounds that you are carrying would probably get you close to 12% (assuming you don't lose any muscle). Keep doing what you are doing for another 5-6 weeks and then do a clean bulk. Starting a clean bulk at or around 12 % may get you close to your goal of 10% without every actually having to cut. If you start your clean bulk at 12% and add 10 lbs of muscle without adding fat, you will be back up to 180lbs (like you are now) with a totally different body than you are sporting currently and will likely have met your 10% goal in the process. Good luck to you.
karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 02:00 AM Here are some before and after pics, I think my face has cleared up quite a bit since exercising!

That would suck if i lost more muscle though, maybe I should start bulking now? But I think you are right, It looks more like I might be at ~16-17%

karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 04:01 AM oh yeah, i feel a lot better now.. i started back in 2001.. the working out has made a world of difference
I was really into the computer back then, but lost a lot of that love for it that I had. Now i'm all into working out.. I'm starting a job for the "geek squad" at best buy on monday. I hope I still got those computer skills ;)

how long did it take you to loose the 30lb? were u "on and off" since 2001? i would say make sure you keep your calorie intake where its supposed to be. Seems to me like if you were building muscle while you were loosing 30 pounds of fat you would have more muscle now...am i wrong?
just saying keep the weight training and the calories up while you cut.
A-Pac Fri, February 10th, 2006, 11:39 AM Congrats on your progress so far! You have came to the right place for advice. But in order to get the best advice I think we'll need a bit more info...
How tall are you?
Do you have any more pictures of yourself from different angles or flexed or anything?
Also, what are you doing as far as cardio...what type, how many times a week, etc?
karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 11:55 AM well, I am 6" tall right now. I initially lost the weight in the wrong way (eating only 4 healthy choice dinners a day for 2 months, while working out everday)
Then I got a job at a gym in chicago called xsport, there I learned a lot. I started eating 6 meals a day, with lean proteins, whole grains, efa's, and have been doing that for a very long time now.
I would do a workout very similar to john stone's, then after a few months I would switch up the routine if I felt it wasn't working anymore.
Lately, I have been working out about every other day but about a month ago I was really tryin hard
I would say I take in roughly 2400 calories per day, I figured after all this time (almost 5 years) I should have made some tremendous gains by now. I do look a LOT better with my shirt off now, but I have hardly any muscle as you can see. Any help would be great!
(Sorry those are only pics I have at the moment)

Nice - Highlights Magazine is where it's at. Good job so far karrtoon :tu: ...
#91 Fri, February 10th, 2006, 01:32 PM Do your friends know your goal is to have a ripped 6 pack?
Ask them to show theirs if they bother you again. You know more than your friends, a lot of ripped people look pretty frail and small with clothes on. I think that just goes with the territory. Just keep doing what you know is the best thing to do and the best route to get to where you want to be at.
wh0rume Fri, February 10th, 2006, 01:43 PM If people start saying you look too skinny, then you need to listen to them and put on some muscle.
A 6 pack will not look good with the muscle size you have currently.
It kind of did on john because he was born sexy, but it's rare.
wh0rume Fri, February 10th, 2006, 02:00 PM Also - think about how often people see you with your shirt off. Ever?
Start worrying about looking good with your shirt on.
Mooshie Fri, February 10th, 2006, 02:15 PM Dude, you aren't anorexic no matter what anyone tells you. Whoever is telling you that is naive. If you're girlfriend is chubby and saying you look anorxeic then the underlying meaning of her statement has nothing to do with you and everything to do with her self image.
If you're anything like me and need that 6-pack to be happy then keep cutting until you get there.
You'd be surprised but if you come up with a solid lifting routine and make every calorie count you can add muscle while you keep shedding fat. You don't have to turn into Jabba just to add some muscle.
Intense cardio, intense weightlifting, healthy diet, patience, time.
It'll all come together if you keep at it. :gl:
wh0rume Fri, February 10th, 2006, 02:19 PM If i were in your exact situation (and I have been) I would bulk for 1 year straight.
Do a Low-carb bulk so you can lose fat too.
(send a PM to mastover and beg him to help you)
#91 Fri, February 10th, 2006, 03:06 PM lol wh0
I agree with you to a certain extent but i think he can benefit more from cutting down to a lower BF still.. his face imo looks more lean than his body and can give a different impression
also from my personal situation, being lean this summer in particular is more important than being thicker but flabby although i would ultimately get to where my final goal is faster the way you suggested.. it maybe the case for him as well.. even though a six pack won't look anything great on me now, i'd prefer to have one and add onto it without much fat getting pocketed at the same time
i would just try to do things to preserve muscle as much as possible if not make gains, wh0 is 100% right in what he's saying though but i can understand if thats not what you want to do now.. and yes mastover can help immensley in trying to cut the bf and build muscle at the same time!
dodus Fri, February 10th, 2006, 04:32 PM I wouldn't worry about bulking. There's plenty of fat still to cut. I'm looking at your pecs...there's definitely some muscle there. You will probably want to attempt to put some more on at a later date, but I'd finish losing the fat first---don't reverse course on your hard work before you even get a chance to appreciate it.
Also, keep in mind, fat/chubbiness loves company.
karrtoon Fri, February 10th, 2006, 10:00 PM Sounds like i will need to cut a bit more, slowly, preserving as much muscle as possible. Then as soon as I hit 10-12% I will begin bulking healthy. Thanks for all the info guys!
c0ntradictum Fri, February 10th, 2006, 10:20 PM You are in the same exact situation as I was about a month ago. See the threads I started. I also had some good advice (from Mastover) about what to try.
Yes, a clean bulk, as wh0 said, would do you nicely, but lose fat as well by doing the low-carb option.
Eventually, I got sick and tired of it all and I went with SGX. He tells me everything I have to do and everything I should not do.
Getting to 10% is tough. Trust me, I've tried. It's harder the first time according to some folks in here. Help is always nice to have.
Anyway, look through all the threads I've started. It should help you get on your way since the advice given to me was pretty similar and we were both in the same boat.
