JeremyLikness Fri, February 3rd, 2006, 05:51 PM Yes, you can have too many shakes. Too many shakes, like too much of anything, will lead to extra calories and prevent you from losing fat or even put on more fat.
I wouldn't rely too much on shakes ... you should try to get as much whole foods in your diet as possible, and just use shakes to supplement on top of that.
How many shakes is too much really depends on the rest of your nutrition. If you are getting at least 3 whole food meals and plenty of servings of fruit and veggies than a few whey shakes is probably fine. If you are doing the whey shakes instead of whole foods, shirking on veggies, etc, it's probably time to focus on your foundations and leave the shakes for later.

i would have to agree. But I wouldn't over do it. natural protein is still the best...and by that I mean from whole food products.:tucool:
stancho Fri, February 3rd, 2006, 05:56 PM Three shakes is definitely not too many. Two suggestions though:
1. Watch your overall caloric intake.
2. Most of the protein you consume should come from food - rather than shakes.
tedpod Fri, February 3rd, 2006, 05:58 PM i definitly agree with you guys, and im trying not to supplement too much..i really have just run out of options and trying to work my butt off(physically and at my job) its hard to have time for alot of food..even though i think im doing okay...incase you havent seen it heres my daily meals

levalution Sat, February 4th, 2006, 04:48 PM i am going to venture out and say it also depends on what kind of shakes you drink.
usually something like Muscle Milk which i made a part of my diet is something to have as a meal replacement because its high in fat, before your workout you want to get something that will hit the muscle asap like whey isolate, on the other hand post workout you may want to take something that will nutrition the muscle a little more.
i have a max of 3 suppliments per day bars and shakes combined.
1 muscle milk shake throughout the day as a MR
1 protein bar usually something balanced with cards/proteins and fats as a MR
1 post workout protein shake to rebuild the muscle usually with skim milk and a banana.
and the rest of my diet is whole foods and plenty of water. Ive been doing this for a week now and the results have been great.
also i would def take a meal 1 hour before you go to sleep, ive started doing that after reading it on this board and i wake up feeling great!

That's interesting...from everything I've read, post workout is the time to get protein and high-GI carbs, and that's about it.
Fat delays gastric emptying -- in other words, slows down the process of getting carbs and protein into your bloodstream. Post workout (immediately post workout, that is), you don't want that.
Pre-workout is largely the same, except that if you eat more than about an hour before workout, you probably want some fat or fiber to slow down the absorption process.
In the grand scheme of things, it seems to be debatable as to whether all these details will really make a significant impact for most people.
