Hi guys,

Quick question: I know we should be drinking about 1 gallon of water per day (still trying to drink more than 2.5 ltr myself) but how does the consumption of water contribute to weight loss exactly? I mean, say your meal plan is tight, your workout routine is tight and you just drink very little water. What would be the likely result(s)?

thanx

First off - I wouldn't try it! If you did try to lose weight that way it would probably be excruciatingly difficult and slow (if any!) Water, especially cold water, has tons of benefits:

Speeds up metabolism
Improves internal organ function (esp. liver and kidney)
Makes skin healthier/improves complexion
Improves muscle tone
Helps fill you up
May help with heartburn
Possible prevention and/or cure for arthritis
May help alleviate/prevent back pain
May help with angina
May prevent/cure migraines
May help with/prevent colitis
High-blood pressure/hypertension (can be signals of dehydration)
Proper hydration may prevent adult-onset diabetes
May help with/prevent depression, loss of libido, and muscular dystrophy

I'm sure there are even more than I've listed, but as you can see water is crucial even when weight-loss/cutting is not the main focus.

"Water is essential to lypolysis (the breaking up of fat molecules for energy). If you don't have an adequate water intake your body has a harder time burning fat. Not only does water facilitate fat burning but it is also essential to flush your system regularly."

Dude, water is a must!

64 oz is the MINIMUM recommended intake for an average person. If you are serious about weight loss, you should drink more. I've read that during cutting cycle bodybuilders drink a glass (8 oz) for every 10 pounds of body weight. Since I tried following that, I see more consistent weight loss results. (FYI, I weight 150 lb and drink 12 oz glass of water 10 to 12 times a day).
