I ended up stumbling on this site while searching the net. A little background on me.

I'm a 39 year old male who weighs 258lbs. Through no fault but my own, I have tried to destroy myself professionally and physically over the past 10 years. I've tried to seek professional help, was put on various mood enhancer medications to help myself. I ended up going off these drugs because I didn't feel that they were helping myself. I've been arrested which resulted in a 3 year battle to keep my job. I neglected my marriage and had an affair with a former co-worker which resulted in a child being born. I've had an ongoing battle with the Dept. of Revenue over support.
I've recently starting smoking pot again. I feel that I must be must be genetically predispositioned as far addictions. I had relatives who have drug addiction. I'm tired of being tired, fat and depressed. I need to make a change in my life. I've started to read the stickys for information.
From looking at a few BMR calculators, I think my BMR is around 2300.
From what I've read for safe weight loss I need to decrease by 500 which puts me at 1800 calories a day. i've downloaded the 175 meals from the recipies section. I do have access to some free weights, nautilus, treadmill and eclipital machines. I'm going to start major group lifting 3 times a week and cardio 4 times to start.

I'm looking foward to trying to make a positive change in my life and welcome comments and suggestions

Hi Tom. Welome.

Good call on reaching out and starting the process of changing.

I'd say #1 is to stop smoking pot. If you are like me and most folks it leads to drinking and laziness.

Get active. Get used to getting up in the morning with a positive mindset and purpose. Make a habit of some little positive things like preparing your own healthy foods and exercising. Take it slow and build from there. It is actually really fun once you get going. Way better than smoking weed. You'll get addicted to your new life once you get going.

Take the money you would have spent on weed and buy some new workout clothes and shoes. Buy healthy food like nice steaks, chicken breasts, and organic veggies. Some books like: The Black Book of Training Secrets, Nourishing Traditions, or Power to the People. Maybe some fancy vitamins and supplements. Those things can be powerful motivators- you have $$ invested in making a change.

Just do it! Right now!:tu: :tu:

Good call on making a change in your life, I think you'll find all of use here at JSF can be some good motivation when you need it. Also, it's good to just sit back and talk or read up and learn how to transform your body. There is a lot of interesting information spread across the board.

POT = MUNCHIES (and it's always junk food) :spank: (at least for many). I'd lay off this stuff, and hey, your looking at making a positive change anyway arn't you? This too can be a good start.

My opinion, read a lot. I like taking a 'before' photo and enjoy it, you'll find you'd rather be working out more than smoking pot and saying "dude, check out this texture!" anyway.
