bradh Wed, February 1st, 2006, 07:16 PM Hey JSFer's, i'm looking over fitday, i must say i really don't know how to use it.
Any suggestions?
I will have a food scale soon so i can weight my food but how accurate are the breakdowns in fitday? For instance 1oz of water packed tuna is 33cals and 7grams of protein. Just wondering how they can make a blanket statment like that, wouldn't different brands be different? i guess that's the reason to customize.
Do you guys just enter in all kinds of customized meals?
I'm really confused with fitday...:bang:

Andrew Wed, February 1st, 2006, 11:08 PM If I ever log my food, I like to do it in Excel. It's cleaner, easier, and faster.

Fitday.com is such a effective way in calculating your calories intake
Even thoughi I rarley use it but when I do, man is it ever simple and fun. It good to know how much calories your intaking for the day, since I eat almost the same everyday I memoried my whole calorie intake.

I use it. What are you confused about? I'll try to help you.
I do custom foods for most things. I use their database for chicken and some fruits and veggies I think, but everything else I do custom foods. So I have custom foods for steel cut oats, Nitrean (I entered it in as 1 scoop), whipping cream, 1 egg, 1 egg white (3 tbsp. egg white liquid), rolled oats, f/f milk, 1 tbsp. mayo, opticen, dextrose, maltodextrin, no-xplode, etc. etc. etc.
I also did a custom food called "Postworkout" which made things easier. That way you can group things together. That might be a little complicated for you right now though.
I wish I could export my custom foods to some type of file and give it to you. I wonder if their downloadable (purchased) software allows this...
Anyway what do you need help with?

Thanks chris, i assume you just measure/weight your food yourself and use the labels on some of the products? I haven't gotten my scale yet so i guess i'm jumping the gun alittle.
I'm just alittle confused has to getting an accurate caluation of my meals. Where did you find out that 1oz of lean ground is X number of calories for instance? Any nutritional site? I think i might be making this to complicated and perfect.

Calorieking.com
Timbermiko Thu, February 2nd, 2006, 12:39 AM I like fitday because I can log my food anywhere with a pc and a connection.
When i'm at work I log my food...then at the end of the day I can review what I ate and continue on.
I like Diet Power, but I can't do the above with that program.

NP. :)
Well it depends on the food. For a lot of things like supplements and foods with labels (tuna, oats, some packaged veggies, milk, eggs, etc.) I do enter in my foods as custom foods. You just do "New Custom Food" and then look it all up on the label and enter it into the various fields.
Some of the foods like the beef and chicken are already in the Fitday database. You can look it up once you log in. However, I'm always nervous about their numbers so I found a lot of foods on other sites and did some comparisons - that one Doordude recommended was one I think I used.
Jokat Thu, February 2nd, 2006, 02:16 AM Hi there,
I also use Fitday but I bought the program. I don't know if you can export your custom food list but I will check tonight when I get home.
FIY... I just use the foods they have listed for a rough idea of my cals. I have added a couple of custom foods here and there. I think that the point for me is disipline. If I have a goal on the screen then I tend to follow it better than if it was just in my head.
Kind Regards,
Preach...
bradh Thu, February 2nd, 2006, 05:19 AM Ok guys thanks, that's the thing that's worrying me accuracy but if i'm consistent it doesn't really matter if its not %100 accurate i guess. I just need to use the same sources. nutritiondata.com is a pretty good site also.
I aslo remeber Jeremy states companies have a window of error on there lables, can't remember what he said exactly but it was a nice cushion for the companies for sure.

I havent found a way to export the custom foods with the Fitday PC. It seems to store everything into the account file you create. New accounts created do not contain customised foods.
Jokat Thu, February 2nd, 2006, 05:13 PM Hey there,
Yeah, I couldn't find a way either. Sorry.
Kind Regards,
