So when looking or touching your skin, can you tell the difference between water weight underneath the skin and fat underneath the skin?
I know everybody holds fat differently, so can I safely assume that everybody is different in their capacity to hold water underneath their skin?
I read somewhere once that the "Ripple Effect" that occurs is water, not fat. Is that true?

You hold very little water directly beneath the skin, and that type of water is not typically drawn up in a pinch, so water weight won't affect caliper readings much (but they play havoc with electronic impedence devices).
If you pinch skin and it's a thick pinch, it's fat, not water.
The water won't make a difference in the pinch but it can obscure visibility to the muscle beneath and smooth out the muscle definition.

I find that if you drink alot of water, you can feel a big difference in your bodyfat because of the fat cells releasing the water they store, you feel it become alot looser and you feel great about it too.
