Its not that I feel guilty about it, but every time I feel like crap. I feel sluggish, slow, bloated, and just crappy overall. After I cheat i'm like "Ugh, I'll never cheat again" then in 2 weeks The TV lands on food network and i get a craving for whatever's on, and eat it without thinking how crappy I feel. Ugh, back to bed for me. :o

I have one a week because i dont know if i could eat clean knowing i could never have certain things again. I make sure i really enjoy it though....i learned the hard way to control the portions on the cheat food, because like you, i felt like a$$ afterward eating that stuff.

For what its worth, if you drink water when you cheat instead of pop or beer, it seems to mitigate the effects of the fried/fatty food somewhat. My first week on the new diet i cheated and had fettucine alfredo and diet sodas. I felt terrible. 2 weeks later when i had a creamy pasta as my cheat, i nixed the soda, and the ill effects didn't last near as long....

Ya know, there are LOTS of foods to pick for a cheat meal/cheat day...maybe you could do something like simply increase your calories for a day or for a meal, or go to a fancy healthy restaurant.

Just because it's a cheat meal doesn't mean youhave to have pizza and beer or a Big Mac...

true, but I always get cravings for specific things. Today it was a meat and potato burrito and potato oles :eat:

potato oles are kind of like tater tots. Anyway, I didn't think that would make me feel so terrible, but now i feel great! I had a 2 hour nap and feel fantastic! Although for my next cheat meal I assume I'll probably just dine out at a nice restaurant like you said.

During the week I write down whatever I felt like eating then on saturdays I eat the food that tempted me the most.

I find myself much less guilty if I am satisfied with what I eat, rather than "binge" eating on foods that arent always that good anyway.

Oh yeah, last saturday was many donuts, all different kinds :D And I didn't regret it one bit!

LOL, I've often had the same thing. I know that I earned the thing and I don't feel guilty for having it, but I feel like CRAP. It's like you've worked all week and earned a night out boozing but then saturday is spent nursing a hangover. I find that if I'm dieting hard and I hit a cheat meal (they are always cheat evenings, actually), even without any booze at all, I just feel hungover the next day. Then I feel "cheated" out of my cheat meal.

A mild cheat meal is fine, and I can suck down 5000 calories without a problem IF I've not been dieting hard recently, but if I jump from 2200 calories/day up to 4500-5000 in a day then I end up feeling like hell by early evening. Mmm, I bet it's good for the body ;d

It happens to me too. Whenever I get a craving for cheesecake or a huge brownie, I have to skip lunch or have a tiny little supper just to fit in all the calories without getting nauseous. Your body knows when you're not being nice to it.

What I hate most is the 2-4lbs you gain over a cheat weekend.. takes me half the next week to lose the bloat and waste..

Great idea.

Just make your cheat meals a visit to a favorite restaurant, even if you pick something decent from the menu. Just don't count the calories/macros or any of that.

There is certainly an important aspect to "cheating" and that is to spark your metabolism and "trick" your body in to believing that you're not starving...why not simply up your calories for a day and still eat clean foods?

My cheat meals usually consist of excess fiberONE cereal with peanut butter and omega 3:6 milk :tu: !! So easy to binge on it and hit 1000 calories :o :eat:

I just started dieting about two and half weeks ago and I feel the same way, though I havent had a cheat meal in about 13 days, i think the next time I cheat I'll just make it a healthy cheat meal (if there is such a thing) like 14 oz of steak meat , A-1 sauce, whole wheat bread, some whiskey sours. yea baby. cheat meal here i come. I probably won't have this for another month or so but its nice to dream. Just hang in there the urges will stop eventually. (I think :-P)

I forgot to mention that I ate a whole chocolate cheesecake on my last cheat day! :eat: :jumping:

A whole cheesecake? That does sound amazing, I love cheesecake. The other day at Graeters I was betting my friend whether or not I could eat an entire slab of chocolate/PB fudge. The lady wouldn't sell it to us as a whole so it didn't happen, but I would have gladly used a cheat meal on an entire thing of fudge.

Not to derail this thread, but how do you guys handle the day after the cheat? Do you just treat it as any other workout day, or does anyone have some sort of special routine for "damage control". I had an unplanned cheat last night (which while I never like, I'm not too upset about as I skipped last week's cheat) in which I consumed Chips Ahoy! and junk food like a hurricane.:D
