View Full Version : How much is too much Peanut Butter?
GRCRYSTYK Sun, January 22nd, 2006, 08:21 PM I eat a lot of Peanut Butter. I use it on Apples, Pears,..Cellery, Carrots, you name it, to make things taste a bit better, or add a little something to the taste, I put a little peanut butter on it,...
It seems to me, based on the fat content of peanut butter, I could easily be overdoing it,...
How much is too much??
Thanks all,...GRCRY,...>>>--->
sc7389 Sun, January 22nd, 2006, 08:23 PM As long as it fits into your daily macronutrient requirement, don't worry about it. If you don't track calories however, you can be easily over doing it.

Amen to this! Peanut butter and pretty much all nuts and nut-products are just incredibly calorically dense. If you're counting you can't go wrong, if you're just guessing who knows?
Gordo Sun, January 22nd, 2006, 08:33 PM So long as you are tracking it and balancing it off with omega-3 you should be okay.
The limit will be individual based so no one will really be able to give you a right answer. Yes, you could be overdoing it. While peanut butter is a good fat....there are better fats to fill your diet with. You shouldn't put all your stock in PB.
Olive oil
Avocados
almonds
seed
Fatty fish oils like salmon
to name a few....
dodus Sun, January 22nd, 2006, 08:34 PM I read in a magazine that 4 tbsp a day is a good cut off point. The magazine was unquestionably geared towards people trying to eat healthy who probably aren't going the additional step to actually keeping track of macronutrients. So if that's you, keep it to 4 I guess. If you're counting, as said before, no limit like that really applies.
Glaive Mon, January 23rd, 2006, 01:42 AM I definitely ran into the problem of accidentally adding a lot of extra calories into my diet via peanut butter. It's one of those horrible "nickel and dime" foods that you can sprinkle here and there and suddenly add 500 calories to your daily total! I've had to just remove it entirely from my diet during my cut (excluding cheat days) to keep myself in check. I've definitely noticed better results since I did so.
eleonardo Mon, January 23rd, 2006, 02:15 PM I eat about 4 tbs of PB a day. I wouldn't eat more than that.
never2old Mon, January 23rd, 2006, 05:11 PM Had to chime in here, since I didn't see sodium mentioned yet.
If you're needing to be careful about sodium intake,
you need to be careful about what kind of p.b. you eat.
I've found the lowest sodium in the all-natural brands,
or in the self-serve, ground-in-the-store stuff (my current favorite).
Quantity?..."too much" surely varies by person,
but 4 tablespoons per day seems like a good number, generally.
That's a bunch of calories and fat though!
"Dense" is a great way to describe it. If you eat 4 tbsp/day,
you'd better plan on eating a good quantity of low-cal filler foods.
HighDefinition Mon, January 23rd, 2006, 07:22 PM Ha, I ate 3/4s of a whole jar last night. I usually buy the Smuckers all natural Honey version. Its the best I have tried of the natural brands. The kind I had last night was Peter Pan Honey Roasted however.
I had not eaten any PB in a couple of weeks and really wanted to cheat yesterday. I coldn't find a good cheat meal around so I stole a jar of the Peter Pan and ate the whole thing nearly. Once in a while isn't that bad and seems like I need a sugar boost like that every few weeks. I am cutting and still loseing weight I just didn't eat as much today to make up for the extra calories plus I did cardio and had tons more energy.
GRCRYSTYK Mon, January 23rd, 2006, 08:23 PM Well,...Based on the input, and thinking back on what I have been putting it on, I have probably been overdoing it,...It really adds up when you start putting it on all sorts of things,...I'm a movie nut as well. I don't get a chance to watch movies every day by any means, but when I watch a movie, I just have to have something to eat. At least at the start of a movie. I would grab a bag of cellery, and a jar of Peanut butter. I would bet I was eating WAY more than a couple tblsp's when doing this, and that wouldn't include a possible apple or pear, with the stuff on it at work. I don't always get a chance to eat like that at work, but at times I do,..I use to have a jar at work, for just an occasion,..:bang:
I decided to just cut peanut butter, and nuts out of the diet for a while and see what happens. Sounds crazy, but it's been hard avoiding it the past few days. I have to really watch my carb intake, and had turned to nuts, and peanut butter as a filler, so to speak. I really have to find something new to take it's their place,..:confused:
I have never tried any fat burning supliments,...Been reading a little here and there,...Too much to try an figure out on reading alone,...and not that I'm going to jump on something to make up for this little setback, but any suggestions for a first timer wanting to try one out??
Thanks again all,....GRCRY,...>>>--->
