hi,

I noticed that when doing incline DB presses, I tend to lower the weights to the lower part of my chest, because I feel I can move more weight that way and different people have told me that would be the right thing to do, in order to hit the pecs. just like on flat bench press..

however I just watched ronnie colemans training vids again and I found out that he actually lowers them to his upper chest area, very close to his delts. so what is the correct way to do it, I guess ronnie should know, he does 12 reps on flat DB press with two 200 pound dumbbells as you know ;)

Just because someone can move a lot of weight doesn't mean they know how to do it correctly.

..that being said, I would think lowering them to your lower chest would be better, but I'm not sure.

Isn't this less an issue of what's "better" and more of how you specifically want to work the muscles?

Incline press you should lower to the upper pecs, flat press to the lower.
The main idea for incline is to hit the upper area.

ok you're right but look at his chest!!! he sure knows what he's talking about :)

@glenn:

so even though I can move more weight lowering it to the lower chest, I should still lower it to the upper chest in order to make the upper chest grow?!

Thats right, to lower it to your lower chest you put yourself in an awkward position, the motion should be almost straight up and down so your forearms stay vertical at all times.
To bring it to your lower chest your forearms would be too far forward by a few degrees making it harder to lift back up.
