Hey guys,

This may be a real stupid question, but it's got me wondering. When you read the nutrition facts and it says something like (taken off of ranch dressing):

Total Fat 11g
Sat Fat 1.5G
Trans Fat 0 G

Where are the other 9.5 grams of fat coming from? Are they the Mono/Polyunsaturated fats?

Also, when you see something that says:
Total Carb 10G
Sugars 5G
Fiber 3G
Other carbohydrates 2G

What are "Other carbohydrates" classified as?
Hope this question isn't too rediculous.

Thanks,
-Mimic

The other 9.5g of fat are from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. They're there, just not listed on the label. The other carbohydrates are usually sugar alcohols or possibly starches (I'm not completely sure if starches are classified as other carbohydrates on the label).

some labels list starches seperately, although others don't.

In the US, "total carbohydrates" also includes fibre.

Thanks guys,

I was figuring those other fats probably had to be mono and poly.

However, I'm still kind of weary of labels that place 'other carbohydrates' on their tag.
