View Full Version : Official "I hated Syriana" thread wh0rume Sat, December 17th, 2005, 12:39 AM I understood the movie, but it was the longest 2 hrs of my life. I don't recommend it. Justitia Sat, December 17th, 2005, 03:17 AM Can you be more elaborative without revealing too much info about the movie? For example, can you use Roger Ebert's Review (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051208/REVIEWS/51130002/1023) as a jumping off point. (I realize you disagree with him as he gave the movie 4*, his highest rating... but I find his reviews interesting to help crystalize my own thoughts, even when I disagree with him.) wh0rume Sat, December 17th, 2005, 08:57 AM i was basically sitting there wishing they would get to the point, but then another hour goes by and they still havnt. I think i was expecting more of an action film, when there wasnt that much action at all. but - matt damon mentions peak oil concept for like 3 seconds! :spaz: doordude42 Sat, December 17th, 2005, 05:50 PM i was basically sitting there wishing they would get to the point, but then another hour goes by and they still havnt. As you know, i'm not much of a movie goer but I would've liked to see Syriana. How was George Clooney in his role? I'm a big fan of his. Gohan Sat, December 17th, 2005, 05:54 PM To sum up my view of Syriana: I see a lot of movies, and I like about 95% of the ones I see. For instance, in the last week, I've seen Chronicles of Narnia, Syriana, and King Kong. CoN was around 2 and a half hours long and King Kong was 3 hours long, yet I left both of those movies not only entertained, but wishing that there was more of them. Syriana, however, was only 2 hours and 3 minutes long, and I couldn't stop staring at my watch, wondering how much longer I had to sit through it. It was, in a word, boring. Hort Sat, December 17th, 2005, 06:52 PM Saw it this afternoon. Don't know why you thought it would be an action film. It's a bitter pill of a film. Acting is solid, cast very strong. It has a point to make.. not a point many want to see. That said, it's more of a slap up side your head than a movie with a firm conclusion or a moral to impart. I'd give it a B- yogro Sun, December 18th, 2005, 05:11 AM I went to see Syriana last week. I can't say I get movies straight away and this one took a bit of thought yet still was boring. wh0, when Matt Damon mentioned the peak oil it straight away reminded me of you, I KID YOU NOT. Well, if i had time to think about wh0 i wouldnt say it was such a gripping movie and would not recommend it. However, i did find George Clooney interesting. He put on quite a bit of weight for this role and apparently he hated it! Hort Sun, December 18th, 2005, 10:49 AM He put on quite a bit of weight for this role and apparently he hated it! Hated the weight or the role? I assume you meant the weight; he gained it all in 30 days and lost most of it in about 30. But he also broke his dura filming falling over in the chair. :nono: The role was a labor of love, along with his homage to Murrow, Good Night, Good Luck. yogro Sun, December 18th, 2005, 11:11 PM Hated the weight or the role? I think this thread should be called, "Why in the World would I think Syriana was an action film?" Was it because there was a single explosion in the trailer? :D wh0rume Mon, December 19th, 2005, 12:32 PM Agreed.
