View Full Version : Opinion on if I should step back on the scale
Sweet_16 Tue, December 13th, 2005, 07:36 PM Over the past two weeks, I haven't been working out or eating very well and I can pretty much feel the extra 2 - 3 pounds on me. I'm the type of person who gets discouraged easily simply by seeing the numbers on the scale increase, even if it's muscles (which it clearly isn't in this case).
So do you think I should get on the scale in the morning and find out how much I've gained and get straight back to my cutting or should I just continue cutting for another 3 - 4 days and after that get on the scale to see where I am? I can lose about a pound within that time for sure.
I know this may sound ridiculous, haha, sorry for being so silly. :neener:

Yup ... you don't workout, eat bad, and feel the fat.
I'm the type of person who gets discouraged easily simply by seeing the numbers on the scale increase, even if it's muscles (which it clearly isn't in this case).
You shouldn't get discouraged over the numbers increasing, because that's to be expected. You should be discouraged about lacking focus and discipline. That's why the numbers went up. Discouraged is when you are focused and do everything right and still don't seeing results ... when you stop doing anything and then gain weight, that's called just not being in the game.
So do you think I should get on the scale in the morning and find out how much I've gained and get straight back to my cutting or should I just continue cutting for another 3 - 4 days and after that get on the scale to see where I am? I can lose about a pound within that time for sure.
What difference does it make? Is it really about getting on the scale, or getting started? If so, what does the scale have to do with getting started? I'd say, get started, and if you choose to use the scale to measure your success, then step on it. Forget about the past or what you could have lost or might have gained and decide right now I'm x pounds and I'm getting started and that's that.
I know this may sound ridiculous, haha, sorry for being so silly. :neener:
If you really thought it was silly, would you have asked? On the other hand, if you want to know something, instead of being discouraged, have the courage to ask!
Mimic Wed, December 14th, 2005, 12:38 PM Discouragment has always baffled me.
People see a small weight increase, get disappointed, eat more unhealthy foods cause they feel guilty for the small amount they just ate, gain more weight. Lose control, give up.
Step on the scale, see how much you gained, set your goal, acheive your goal, enjoy the results!
Discouragment causes you to lose all your progress. Don't let it get to you. It's simply a new goal, and hell, make it enjoyable to see the progress you've regained.

Sweet_16 Wed, December 14th, 2005, 06:27 PM Thanks for the responses! I only went up 1.5 lbs, but I ate really well today and will be getting some cardio within two hours from now.
Jeremy, you're absolutely right about falling off the wagon and not "being in the game" over the past few weeks as well as what real discouragement applies to.
Bye now, I'm on my way to burn some not-so-wanted body fat! :jumping:

Keep it going! You can do it! Don't let that 1.5 pound increase dismantle your success. We've all been there before. The important thing is to now move forward like your doing.:claplow: :claplow: :claplow:
