View Full Version : Does Any One have A G-Mail Invite Code?
Justitia Mon, December 12th, 2005, 07:07 PM Does Any One have A G-Mail Invite Code?
Google gives them out via cell-phone or you can get one from a friend who gets it via their cell phone. You can get more than one invite code per line on a cell phone. For professional reasons I can't use my cell phone number.
So if anyone can PM me a code they are not using...it would be much appreciated.
quaker Mon, December 12th, 2005, 07:17 PM Post or PM a current email address and I can send an invite.
EDIT: Actually, I just PMed you a link that should work. Let me know if you have problems with it.

sc7389 Mon, December 12th, 2005, 09:20 PM You guys only have 50? I have a few gmail accounts with 100 invites each, and they refill every few weeks too. I've had gmail for over a year now.

They're at 100 now? I haven't actually logged into the gmail site in a while. I just have them setup for pop and configured in my outlook.

Alright, alright, alright...all you guys...no bragging ;)
This is not exactly a yardstick of coolness  ... (Just joking, sc7389)
Anyway, thanks everyone for your responses both here and in PM's. I think I am in good hands now....
(gee...I hope G-mail send me 200 invites a month...then I'll really be cool :tucool: uhhh, no I won't  )
sc7389 Mon, December 12th, 2005, 09:46 PM New users don't get any invites, as far as I know. You have to be with gmail for a while before they start giving you more invites. That may not be the case now -- I don't really know.

I think that's true... I have 2 gMail accounts and one has invites.... the other doesn't. It was for a limited time I think.
What do you guys like better? Gmail or YahooMail?
I don't have a preference but my brother likes Yahoo better...

I think it depends on the way your mind works. I like Yahoo mail because I "see" my stuff better when it's in individual folders, rather than the "conversations" that Google uses.
I love everything else that Google does more than Yahoo, though.
Monkey0ne Mon, December 12th, 2005, 10:12 PM That true... I remember the first time I started using GMail, reading messages were a bit confusing. Took a while to figure out how they organized the conversations.
badgolfer Tue, December 13th, 2005, 01:01 PM Can anyone else not log into their gmail account today. Im getting an error message.

Gmail. I think messages are organized better and you can search your mail and the web as well.

sc7389 Tue, December 13th, 2005, 02:23 PM Does yahoo offer 2GB of space too? Last time I logged in they offered 250mb, just like hotmail.

I'm also lost. What are you being invited to? Is there some big Google party that I'm missing out on?
Justitia Wed, December 14th, 2005, 09:47 AM Gmail is the new free e-mail service Google is providing. The idea is that is it is a website e-mail service like Yahoo.com or Hotmail.com only it is called Gmail.com
It is trying more innovative things, the most important of which is that it gives you unlimited storage space so you never have to delete e-mails again.
Yahoo is now trying to compete and gives much more space but not as much as Gmail.
I haven't done anything with it yet --I just opened my account... bu these guys are talking about different features and comparing the way Yahoo handles them to the way Gmail handles them.
One is that Gmail is supposed to allow you to organize your e-mail so they are easier to read through and to search through. Apparently so does Yahoo but differently.
The other that I know about is that Google doesn't have any pop-up ads or a variety of other sorts of ads...just the kind like they have on their search page --- or so I understand. I have no idea how Yahoo is doing its ads in competition.
And that is all I know.....:blank:
Reeze Wed, December 14th, 2005, 10:34 AM It sounds quite good. I've used hotmail for years, but I may try it out.
What is the invite thing though? Can you only get an account if they invite you?

Do you still need one Reeze or did someone hit you up with a PM?

I still need one; I think. I certainly don't have one, but I'm also not totally sure what it is for!

If you would like to try Gmail out PM me with your email address and I will be happy to send you an invite.
hyoomen Thu, December 15th, 2005, 12:20 PM Same here. I think I still have 40 invites, though I thought they'd made it so you could call by cellphone to get an account without an invite now. Perhaps that was just for Talk.
At any rate, Gmail is the best free service out there (though I still love my Hushmail account for sensitive correspondence).
Anyway, just PM one of us your email for an invite.
J-Man Thu, December 15th, 2005, 08:20 PM What is Gmail and why is it so popular it seems with hundreds of invites going out to everyone, but you cant join without an invite? I'm Lost on this matter:confused:

Dunno... I know it was Google's response to Yahoo's YahooMail. They premiered it as the first Free eMail Service with a 1GB capacity. I guess they upped it to 2GB. They kinda marketed it like Costco. No ads, just word of mouth. One person spreads it to the next via invitation. There are plenty of people on here that will gladly send you one (myself included). :D
ToddB Fri, December 16th, 2005, 07:40 PM The reasons that Gmail is still by invite only is two-fold. 1. It is still in it's Beta phase... although it's been in Beta testing for a long time. 2. It gives it an "exclusive" feeling, and makes others want one.
I like my Gmail account, but I prefer Hotmail's storage management. I like being able to store messages in folders, where Gmail does not offer this feature... at least that I've been able to find.
Justitia Sat, December 17th, 2005, 03:53 AM Google also says on their site that they are using the cell phone method to limit spamming as they limit the number of accounts to any given cell phone number. But I think their giving out so many invites to give away as well may defeat that purpose.
