I was wondering if its a waste to take a protein drink in the morning. Im a student so I cant work out until the evening.

Is it also a waste to take 3 protein shakes a day? It would be an easy way for me to add 75g of protein. Im thinkin Id have one in the morning, right before my workout in the late afternoon, and right before bed so I dont have any late night cravings and to help during my sleep.

What do you all think?

That is exactly what I do... 3 a day workout later in the evening because I have to be at work for 7:30 and I cant workout at 5am....

i'm interested to see what others say about this protein schedule as well

No, it's not a waste to down a protein shake in the morning. And three a day is fine. But do what you can to get the majority of your protein from foods. Don't forget that the shakes are suppliments, try not to think of them as meal replacements. Also, try to have one of those protein shakes immeadiately after your workout. Protein and carbs are very important post workout to help your body recover.

I agree with what Jonesy said.

One in the morning is great, infact protein in the morning is very important as you have just woken up and been without food for x amount of hours.

As for 3 a day, i sometimes endup taking 3-4 a day (3 shakes + mrp) as im a student too, but where possible try to get your protein from 'real' food

hope this helps a bit mate

Adding to what everyone else has said, it isn't a waste at all. A good combination of carbohydrates and protein in the morning can be very beneficial. Protein supplements are there so you can make sure that you get plenty of protein, so if you aren't getting enough, then the 3 protein shakes are not a waste at all.

You may want to watch having one right before bed.. I know that some people do it, but I tried once and absolutely could not sleep. They really give me a lot of energy and it was almost like having 2 or 3 cups of coffee before bed...

I'm sure it doesnt affect everyone the same way though.

Thanks for the advice all!

I had a bowl of cereal this morning with a protein shake. Now im having one as a midday snack with a pretzel.

I cant decide if I should have my last one tonite with dinner right after my workout, or right before bed. What do you all think?

have your last one post workout with some dextrose to trigger an insulin spike thus increasing the time for protein intake.

Before bed have some cottage cheese if you have some, or look in to getting some casein

Just so you know, if you're taking 75g's of protein at a time, your body can only handle so much at a time. Anything your body can't handle just flushes out of your body, or, turns into body fat. Yes , Protein can turn into fat too!

Good point 'Boni!! I don't quite remember what the numbers are, but I believe your body can only process around 40 grams in a 2-3 hour period. I'll have to find those numbers to be sure though.
