View Full Version : They believe their right.....
LarryNC Tue, November 29th, 2005, 12:33 AM I met this new girl, shes real nice, and after awhile she says she wants to drop 20 pounds she gained by drinking alcohol (college student) .. She says she will continue to drink alcohol and just eat less and she shall lose her weight... and I told her if she wants to lose anything to just drop the alcohol and not to eat less.. and she totally believes what she is doing works, oh well :o
On top of that, she worked only abs today at the gym she goes to for a whole hour, when she told me I asked, what about all the other muscles and she says "They get worked when I do cardio and kickboxing" I mean thats awesome and all, but if she goes to the gym like that at least do some weight training for all your muscles:)
Anyone know others like this? Totally clueless but believes they know what they are talking about :D
"1+1 = 11" !!!!!
Lost Tue, November 29th, 2005, 01:01 AM oh man.. i run into that and worse all the time. its frustrating as hell.
at first you may try to convince them otherwise. eventually you will realize, few if anyone will listen to you. it kind of sucks.
Emilio Tue, November 29th, 2005, 06:10 AM Gotta love the hip adductor machine junkies. Every gym has em. They start with that machine then maybe.. just maybe after 11ty billion sets of 3 lbs they just might hop onto another circuit machine before leaving. Can't blame em for trying but I wish they were a bit more informed. If I only had pictures of the faces girls have made when I suggested working out with me in the free weights section. I swear I could sell a video of their reactions and make millions.
LarryNC Tue, November 29th, 2005, 08:44 AM Yeah, at golds girls I've seen just go on the hip machines, and ab machines, I see guys go on the abs and bicep machine alot too haha

these are the moronic girls that think they will get HUGE muscles "like guys do" if they lift more than 5lbs... I'd like to slap the crap out of the idiot that started that rumor... who ever he or she is  I've tried to convince some of them at my gym that lifting heavy won't make them huge... some of them listen and some of them make me feel like I'm doing this --> :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:
guava Tue, November 29th, 2005, 11:02 AM My sister looked at me like I was nuts when I pointed out that her 5 pound dumbbells were too light. Too many women are still afraid of lifting heavy weights.
Did you tell your friend that alcohol has 7 calories per gram, and carbohydrates and protein have 4 calories per gram? Or does she care?
BigDog Tue, November 29th, 2005, 12:25 PM The majority of people who believe that the only way to get leaner is to do cardio until you drop.
I will admit that I sort of fell into this camp until about a year ago. Now every time I see someone who won't lift because they are trying to get lean (actually, it's usually "thin") it drives me nuts.
It's probably b/c I'm reminded of my own stupidity in the past.
Dew Tue, November 29th, 2005, 12:44 PM Agreed on all accounts. At university at the student rec center, which I now refuse to go to due to crowds of people, girls will LINE UP for those AB/AD duction machines... while there are 10 other empty machines they can do and probably get more of a workout from. I always wondered... why do those AB/AD machines even have weights... I don't think the pin has ever gone lower then the first 2 plates.
HeavyGuy Tue, November 29th, 2005, 01:13 PM I see similar things all the time when it comes to nutrition as well. Just this past weekend, we hosted a little party with tons of finger foods, chips, dips etc. When it was over, I was shoving leftovers into the hands of people as they left so that I couldn't eat any more. They kept saying things like "Here, take this crab dip. You can eat it because crab meat is good for you.". They never thought about the 2 cups of butter that I saw them dump onto it prior to shoving it in the oven. Same with things like salmon cream cheese dip... "Salmon is good for you!".
All of this immediately after a conversation with one of the heavy (like me) guests at the party. She said "I can't believe you've lost 26lbs already! I have only lost ~10 since May!". She is one who eats Cheetos because cheese is good for you. I don't claim to be a nutritional genius by any means, but at least I try to educate myself.
Heavy
Dew Tue, November 29th, 2005, 02:11 PM Cheetos for the cheese? that's a new one. let me quote that. :D

The only way I've ever gotten across to a girl was by telling her that the sexiest thing a girl can have is a nice strong back and nice legs. I also told her the best way to get a nice butt was to do squats.

Gotta love that attitude!!!!!:tucool:
I'm amazed at what some people actually believe.

No she doesn't care one bit, haha.
zenpharaohs Wed, November 30th, 2005, 12:06 AM why do those AB/AD machines even have weights... I don't think the pin has ever gone lower then the first 2 plates.
Because of guys like me. I went to the bottom plate on those though so I don't use them now.
Skoorb Wed, November 30th, 2005, 09:33 AM People are dumb. Sometimes it's just not even worth trying to correct them. She could lose weight while drinking just alcohol, I suppose, but she'd look like hell.
Reno_1ted Wed, November 30th, 2005, 09:48 AM You have to blame the morons they employ as trainers at the gym. They watch this day in, day out, yet do nothing.

hehe.. thanks :D  :p
airforcePTL Wed, November 30th, 2005, 10:52 AM weeeee!! let's find a quicker way to ruin our bodies! as if drinking was bad enough, let's stop eating and have another drink! god!! that gets so dam frustrating! or as larry the cable guy would say, that's more frustrating than a three legged dog trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond. :bang:

Not only girls. I used to think that - because I went to a faily serious gym and all the guys lifting heavy were huge.
I spotted someone one day who basically said - lift heavy, you will have to live in here to get 'too big'. Obviously now I know food + possibly some artificial help is what those guys were on, but when you first start it's not that obvious. I was cutting, so it's obvious now that I wasn't going to get huge.
We still see lots of comments from men saying - I just want to look good, nothing too big! They don't realise how difficult it is to get too big, or how easy it is to not get bigger if you don't want to.
Chris Wed, November 30th, 2005, 01:57 PM You have to blame the morons they employ as trainers at the gym. They watch this day in, day out, yet do nothing.
Can't really blame the trainers in this case, I know when i had to walk the floor the mgr told us not to give out advice or offer help to the "free-loaders" as he liked to put it... Besides, most of us see people doing exercises incorrectly at the gym all the time and dont just walk up and confront them about it.
I used to get so many dirty looks and attitude when I would correct someone that I realized a long time ago that I shouldn't offer my opinion unless they ask for it, a lot of times they think they know it all, so let them fail and they'll come to you later on with an open mind.

That's what all the girls I know did in college...eat a couple pieces of lettuce during the day, maybe a few scraps of bagel, and then later, hit the beer bong until the sun comes up...and yes, by the end of 4 years, they did look like hell.
