It arrived yesterday (ahead of schedule by like two weeks -- this is why I like FedEx)! I was excited to put it together until I realized that the bench I ordered still didn't get here (stupid UPS). My sister helped me put it together since some stuff needed to be held up and I couldn't tighten the bolts AND hold stuff up at the same time. I took a few pics as I was putting it together.

Here's a pic of a few boxes the power rack came in.

I layed out some of the parts where I was going to assemble it.

The base and the top of the power rack is fully assembled here.

The beams are up!

The rack itself is finally finished.

Putting together the lat attachment

Here's the disappointing part. I will have to get a longer bar. When I tried to put up my old bar on the support um, beam things it didn't fit right (too small -- pic below).

The bar is 72" long (I measured it). Do they sell standard bars that are longer or will I have to spend loads of money on an olympic bar and plates?

So, what do you think?

I want one! :D

No idea about the bars dude. I just got a olympic bar from my uncle there HUGE compared to the standard bars that i have.

I think there well over $100USD.

I just went to Modell's.com and they have an 84" standard bar. It's like $40 though. Eek. I will have to get it when the bench arrives. It sucks that I can't even play with my new toy until the bench gets here!

I've got a bodysolid rack too. I like your safety rails better than mine. I've got a pin system with an attached rail that slides on the uprights. I've always thought the rails like yours would be easier. Excellent choice.

Thanks guys. I can't wait to work out my legs/back on this thing. :D
I thought the rack would be a lot wider. I tried doing squats with just the barbell and I seem to fit in the space quite well. I guess it's just te right size after all.

Nice raised letters on the frame of the rack.

Here it is fully assembled with the lat attachment.

Anyone know what these hooks are for? To hold the lat pulldown when it's not in use? Are they hooks to hang your shirt when you're working out? ;]

Congrats on getting your equipment. :tu: That's a huge step to take towards getting yourself in better condition. As far as picking up an olympic bar...if you buy a bar, you're going to have to have olympic plates to use with it. The 1" hole in any standard plates, aren't going to fit well over the 2" horns on the olympic bar. So the $40 for the bar may be upwards of $100 for an olympic set. Not trying to rain on your parade...I'm just presenting more acurate numbers for you to keep in your head. :gl:

If you have standard plates, you could stick with a standard bar. They've got 7 foot standard bars in most sporting goods places - you just have to look. I got mine at a Play it again Sports for $30, and I think it was new, or at least it was really well kept.

Yea I know about the difference in size of holes on olympic plates and standard plates. Thanks for pointing it out, though :tu:

I'll go pick one up at Modell's on tuesday. I hope they have a bar this large at the store. Their online site has it but I don't want to order it, pay for shipping and wait a week.

Edit: Anyone want to guess what those hooks are for (in the pic above)?

Those hooks are to hold the lat bar when it's not in use. Keeps it out of the way when you're doing overhead lifts, or to keep you from smacking your head if you're really tall.

Yea, just as I thought. Thanks for clarifying.

Nice rack. It's really a great investment. I have a Powertec, which looks very similar.

I had the same dilema you did about the standard size weights. Here's what I did:
Instead of spending $40 on a bar, go to Dick's and get yourself a 300 lb olympic set for 100-$120.
Use the standard plates for dumbells (I got a couple of handles with spinner collars)

I bought an 84" std bar - for pretty much the same reason, most std bars aren't rated for any particular weight though & mine rapidly developed a serious bow - mostly from doing squats (sometimes in excess of 500lbs)

I've since purchased a couple of lengths of 1" dia SAE 8620HT (prehard) rod from a local metal supplier & found them to be much more durable. 8620 is one of the steel grades used to make mid-range olympic bars. 4340HT or 4140HT would probably be alright too

the biggest drawback is no knurling - but that's not much of a problem for squating & I'm planning to have some knurl turned onto one of the bars in the near future at a local machine shop & I'll use that one for bench press

the best part: 2 84" bars and 2 60" bars cost me all of $26cdn :tu:

That is slick looking now that it is all setup. You two play nice now!

I agree, the hooks are to hold the lat bar when not in use.

Buy an olympic barbell and use your standard weights on it. 90% of olympic barbells that I've seen are "downgradable" to the standard 1" sized ends, then you just need the standard sized "mini" collars for the ends and your set. All you need is a hex screw to get the 2" tubes off each side.

Wow, I really can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.
