Can someone tell me how long these are fully loaded (without the 120 lb option)? It seems like with all the plates on it'd be around 20 inches.

i just measured mine. the 75 lb kit is right at 14.5", including the part of the locking screws that sticks out. i don't think theyd be near 20" until you had the full add on kit put on there.

Compared to Olympic dumbbell handles which are 20" regardless of how much weight you have on them.

How do Olympic dumb bells work with the "squeeze" collars? Can the collars hold quite a bit of weight on them? For instance if you were to do a french press how much weight could the olympic collars hold without giving out and having weights fall on your head ;) ? I ask because I'm doing a full upgrade of my home gym and dumb bells are on the list. I just purchased a Powertech Power rack (the one john had) and an olympic bench with leg extension I'm totally stoked. Just need to get an olympic weight set now.

Wow...that's a lot smaller than I expected. Not bad at all. I guess I'm just trying to find any excuse for not having to cough up the $429.

As far as Olympic dumbbell handles go...well, they suck. As Kino mentioned, they're huge. They can fit five 10 lb plates a side with collars, but then you'd be working with (TWO of) something the size of a Volkswagen. As far as the collars themselves go, the spring type constantly get in the way of basic movements. I've used many types, and have found none to be consistently reliable in keeping anywhere near that much weight on. Even had one come off mid-press once, with the plates missing my head by inches.

Needless to say I was pissed, so now I'm using standard dumbbells with threaded spin collars...I have two sets of those and quite a few standard plates (all of which cost around $120 WalMart), so there's no issue of changing weights during a session for me.

I just got my Ironmaster dumbells last week.
They are great, I've had no problems with them at all.
At least with the six times I've used them.

The weight change is quick and easy, they don't rattle; they work great.

I'm very pleased

No exactly the same thing, but close,..I have recently purchased a set of Hoist Adjustable Dumbells, and couldn't be happier with them. I hadn't used Dumbells in the past too much at all, but in my old age, have come to really take a liking to them,...The switching of plates is pretty quick, and very easy. They are a super space saving peice of gear,...I will be ordering more plates, as I only have the 45 lb set right now. I think I can cheat a few more plates on the 45 lb handles without being dangerous,...
