Yeah, I saw the other thread about ankle pain but it didn't go anywhere... so here's my attempt.

After today’s walk / run routine at lunch my right foot felt sore just below and to the front of my ankle. I marked the area in question on the image below. Throughout the day the pain escalated from a dull soreness to a sharp, steady pain which I can only feel when pressure is applied to the foot.

What is really weird is that it can hurt bad for awhile and then feel fine for a few minutes. Stretching my ankle doesn’t help but it does feel a little better when I rub the area that hurts.

I have no idea what that means! I took some pain reliever and it’s bearable to unoticeable now.

I am overweight and have been doing walk / run intervals for about 2.5 weeks, and just ran a 5K (Very slow pace) this last Satruday. But it wasn't until today's routine that I felt all of this.

Any ideas?

Does it hurt when you go up on your toes? Is that pain more painful then if you are just standing on your flat foot? I have a few ideas but want some more info first. Is it tender to touch? very much? Also, does it hurt to move your ankle outward (laterally)?

The area you show in your image is a little above where you might get pain due to arches, and because of your recent increase in physical activity that is very possible. Arch supportive insoles would be all you need, but I can't be sure thats the problem yet.

It doesn't hurt when I go up on my toes, but it does hurt when my foot is flat. It isn't tender to the touch and it actually feel OK when I push my ankle outwardly... I usually stretch my ankles that way before running (Walk on the outsides of my feet, old soccer habit) to loosen them up a bit.

Thanks for the info so far... please let me know if you have more questions!

Let me make sure you understand me on moving the ankle outwardly. I want you to, in your words, walk on the INSIDES of your feet... not literally but does the motion of moving your foot out to allow you to do this hurt? Make sense?

Have you ever had or been told you have bad arches in the past? I really think this may be the problem, especially since it hurts when being on the foot and since you have increased your physical activity a bit. If you want, I would go out and buy some solid arch supportive insoles and try them in your shoes and see if that helps. Put them in whatever you are wearing at any given time. So if you are working put them in your work shoes, then switch them into your workout shoes when you go to do that.

If you do buy the insoles, make sure they have a firm arch support. Just because the package says so doesn't mean true. Take them out and feel the arch support, think about the fact that you are putting your body weight on this... make sure its firm. This shouldnt be more then $20 or so, so if you are willing... give it a shot and let me know how you are doing in a week or so.

If you'd rather not spend the money I would ice the sore spot after working out/walking/jogging or anytime that it is very sore and see if it will pass with time... especially as you jog more often it will strengthen.
