How are people planning to work out and eat through the Holiday? I haven't figured out what my plan is.

I never watch anything I eat on the holidays. There are just some times that you can't be counting every calorie, Thanksgiving being one of those times.

I do plan to exercise as normal though.

I don't plan on stuffing myself with food this Thanksgiving. It will prolong my cut, imo.

The best plan ,in my opinion, is to eat whatever you want and however much on Thanksgiving day. Obviously this does not mean stuffing yourself to the point of feeling sick. At least to me. There's no pleasure in that. Take it easy on leftovers. There's no need to be a pig for 4 days. Work out as normal.

I don't plan on changing a thing. I don't count calories or stay up late at night worrying about macronutrient ratios. I eat when hungry and just enough to be satisfied and train consistently.

Why switch it for the holidays? No reason. Will I have some treats and turkey? Yes. But it doesn't mean that I use it as an excuse to overeat and stuff my face, either. Just because there are 12 items on the table doesn't mean I have to eat them all and if there are too many desserts to count I'll satisfy myself but just having a tiny bite of each.

Strangely enough, this is similar to my, uh, "plan". The only difference is that I expect to get my rowing machine delivered this week and I might get all excited and row for a few hours.

Yeah, that's basically what I mean. If I want something or multiple something's on Thanksgiving, I'll have it. But I don't see the point of eating past the point of being satisfied. That's not enjoyable to me. The only real difference is that I'll eat more 'bad' foods on the same day than I would ever normally eat.

Health will be the last thing on my mind come Thanksgiving. Honestly? I plan to eat and drink anything that I feel like -- whatever strikes my fancy -- Health consequences be damned! If I feel like stuffing myself way beyond the point of satiety, I will certainly do that. One or two days of gustatory debauchery ain't gonna kill ya ... especially if you generally eat healthy throughout the year. It is chronic abuse of food that causes problems, not the one or two days that surround the holidays.

I plan to exercise as normal though.

We have family in town Friday-Saturday.

So Thursday I'm eating on plan and going to the gym (twice!)
Friday I'm making a 19lb bird brined in apple cider and herbs; a wild mushroom/yukon gold gratin (with 2 cups heavy cream  ), a poached pear tart, fresh green beans with lemon burre blanc and a cranberry puree of some sort- haven't figured that out yet...

And probably leftovers on Saturday... so the cut takes a back seat. I'll do cardio Friday AM but no lifting. Undecided about Saturday. I may do cardio. No lifting.

Thanks- I do like to cook. Brining is a great technique... just arranging a way to do a near 20lb bird is the hard part.

I think I'm putting the bird into two big oven bags, filling it with the brine- then sticking it in a cooler with some ice for 24 hours. My garage will probably be about 45 degrees Wednesday so I may just leave it (lug it!)out there.

I'm looking forward to some more pumpkin pie!!

No whipped cream necessary, but a glass of milk with it will make me happy. :D

Getting off to a good start on the Concept 2 200K challenge (200k of rowing on an ergometer between Thanksgiving and Christmas) with a row of at least 10K.

Maybe going skiing. Maybe going out for a walk with family and dog.

Eating well, but also making some different choices than in years past (i.e. portions, and volume of desserts will change). Not because I want to deprive myself, but because my definintions of what I want to eat has changed.

All bets are off on Thanksgiving.

This is the third Thanksgivings I've seen since shedding the bulk of my weight. The key, as I see it, is to avoid the "grazing" mentality before the main meal. Avoid the pre-meal finger foods that most households will fix. Eat your normal healthy diet until the main meal. For me, Thursday morning, I'll eat a small breakfast and 2~3 small meals before the actual dinner. I remember that last year, I kept myself slightly hungry all day last year and when dinner arrived, I finished a pretty hefty plate of food, but nothing over the top and I didn't go back for seconds. I almost never do that anymore, no matter what we're eating.

It's one day out of the year. Eat and enjoy the food; that's what the day is all about.

My erg arrives tomorrow. Then I'm coming for you, Dog.

I got the Waterrower - do you know how to make sure the distance is equivalent between these two machines?

No idea how consistent the measurements between the two machines are. Have heard good things about both, though.

But, each of the last 2 Sats, I've hit personal bests at the 10K mark (37:04). This after some tough Friday workouts which hammered legs, and left me sore and tired the next day. . .

Am very interested to see how I'm doing after a few days w/o lunges and deads the day before. My sense is that with a little dedicated training, 36:30 is well within striking distance.

Wow- totally took this off topic. Apologies.
