View Full Version : Trying to buy a treadmill, confused!
LJH2100 Mon, November 14th, 2005, 04:41 AM Hey whats up guys, I have been searching out treadmills today, trying to find one for my wife. Features aren't as important as durability, as we can sit it in front of a real TV, or fan, or stereo LOL Anyways, the budget we are aiming for is around $600, and in our area Sears seems to have the only decent treadmills in town. So to make that long story short, is 600 a good range for a durable treadmill? And btw, I've already checked the classifieds and it doesn't look like anyone is selling any treadmills at this point in time.

I agree
mrpilotguy Mon, November 14th, 2005, 01:04 PM I agree too, but keep in mind it'll soon be winter in Maryland. I know from personal experience (I'm from California, currently living in Florida by the way) that winters in the northeast are CRAP. Who wants to do their cardio dressed like an Eskimo?
Genetix Mon, November 14th, 2005, 01:14 PM I bought a ProForm c1050 treadmill (it was about $999 at the time, now sitting busted 1 1/2 years later EVEN with regular maintenance), and since then I've researched a lot and found that you can't get a very durable treadmill without going into the thousands. I'd save the $600 and just do what everyone said, go outside for your walks/runs, it's fresh air and I find much better than staring at a wall for an hour on a treadmill. When winter does arrive, get a fitness club membership and use their treadmills because they have the real deals, they're probably $5000 machines.
With that said, there is no good treadmill for a serious runner for under $1000. If you are still inclined to buy one, check out my favorite treadmill expert - The Treadmill Doctor (http://www.treadmilldoctor.com/). He's tried out virtually every treadmill there is, maybe you'll find one that will be fine for now.
LJH2100 Mon, November 14th, 2005, 10:53 PM Well, as one said earlier, the Maryland winters aren't very fun, and they are starting up. The last thing I want to do is a) walk when it's freezing b) slip on ice or just stay inside cause it's snowing. Anyways, thanx genetix for that site, I think I will just add my wife to my YMCA account, and she'll have to get the ambition to drive there 3 days a week to workout, for me, I love it, but she hates it.
Thanks again everyone.
