View Full Version : Have you ever forgotten to eat? (Question Inside, too)

Yesterday was a pretty busy day for me. I'm in college and my friends all moved away while I stayed here for the first year, so they're in town for the weekend and I've been spending time with them. Well yesterday I woke up, showered, went to a football game, hung out with them and played some poker, etc. and it isn't until this morning that I realized I completely forgot to eat yesterday. So I decided I'd weigh while I didn't have any water weight and see what that day did for me, and i lost 5.5 pounds! :p

Now, I know that it isn't 5 1/2 pounds of fat, but just to see the scale jump like that has given me a little boost of motivation to keep eating clean and exercising.

With all that said, I do have a question. I do know that when your body goes into "starve mode" that it usually stores whatever you eat as fat. Will that happen after just one day of not eating (keeping in mind I had no cravings and wasn't forcing myself to not eat or anything.) or should I be okay?

This is kind of a controversial topic - some people believe fasting for 24 hours once in awhile does the body good and others beleive fasting harms it.

In my opinion for my body - I fast once a year for a Jewish Holiday, and I feel great the next day - almost like my body is clean of anything bad and it puts me on the right track for my diet. I do not look at the scale because I know what I will see in front of me is not true - its better to use a fast as a way to cleanse your system, not lose weight.

Again - this is my opinion and I would never fast for more then 1 day a year.

Funny, break fast is usual one of my bigger, pigout meals of the year. I rarely feel good the next day! I don't think one day of fasting really helps you in any way, but neither should one day hurt you. Don't worrry about it.

Do you think that it has the potential to hurt progress? I usually fast for Yom Kippur too, but I didn't this year. I didn't want to get off track.

I don't think it does - it's one day. If you made it a habit or did a few days in a row then I could see it being an issue.

I know the day after Yom Kippur I was back in the gym and had not lost anything - made a few small gains and some weights stayed even, but lost nothing.

Like I said, I feel good after a fast. I try to eat healthy before it and after it and my body responds good to it - but I wouldnt do it for more than 1 day - plus I sleep alot more on Yom Kippur than any other time.
