View Full Version : fat loss and diet soda...
thepump13 Fri, November 11th, 2005, 11:29 PM ever since I started my cutting routine/nutrition, I am depending on diet sodas and coffee and sugar free hot chocolate (YUM!) much more to ward off hunger, satisfy occasional sweet tooth, etc...Although I also drink a TON of water (approx one gallon/day or more) I am wondering if anyone else does the same? How many diet sodas per day/week? I usually drink caffeine free, but not too concerned with that aspect of it. The bloating that results sucks too...
Of course I just had a 20 ounce diet cherry pepsi and it was great! Anyone else have opinions on this....?
Skoorb Sat, November 12th, 2005, 12:12 AM Yeah, I drink plenty, as do many other people.
They're fine. Some people wrongly say that they inhibit fat loss, but there's absolutely no evidence for it. Others go so far as to say that the body can eventually get used to the chemicals in these (somehow...) and start using the _inherently undigestable_ compounds in them as energy, which is false. I've also heard that they can raise blood sugar, which is also wrong.
They are calorie free and will not aid/inhibit fat loss.
If one digs deeper, it's possible that certain ingredients in them can do things like slow uptake of a certain vitamin or something like that (I'm just saying, as an example), but although it's possibly worthy of debating their carcinogenic properties (though barely), anybody who says they inhibit fat loss is wrong.

Speaking of sweet tooth....major choco calling last 2 days.
YIKES. I drank a lot of water but not sure if it's going to help my situation.

regular soda is bad for you
BD231 Sun, November 13th, 2005, 01:14 AM For me, in the late *late* stages of a cut, diet soda can set off hunger pangs/blood sugar crash (due to insulin release) unless it's EXTREMELY cold and watered down a bit by ice or eatin with a meal.
I've always had odd blood sugar issues though and keeping insulin under control is always important for me no matter how I eat.
In any case I doubt it could really hurt the fat loss, I've drunk them while doing a keto diet and they didn't hurt the fat loss a bit. I hate drinking water while cutting sometimes, soda helps me get the much needed liquid needed down.
aaaaaa1 Sun, November 13th, 2005, 10:21 AM I don't suppose it has any harmful effect from fatloss point of view, but I woudln't think that all those artificial chemicals are good for the body in the long term.
I guess drinking lots of it for a short time (while cutting) is just fine, but it doesn't look like a good idea to make it a way of life.
